💡 As wind turbines increase to 15 MW and beyond, the engineering design requirements for both towers and floating wind platforms change. Some Wind Turbine Manufacturers (MTMs) are standardizing their products, offering “stiffer” towers, which has implications for the platform design. Perimeter column foundations are feasible for 15 MW class turbines and are compatible with standard “softer” tower geometries available for fixed-bottom offshore wind projects. However, new product strategies from WTMs present an opportunity for standardization and optimization in the “stiffer” tower space. Principle Power has expanded WindFloat® technologies into four FEED-ready industrialized solutions, which now includes the WindFloat TC (Tubular, center column) and WindFloat FC (Flat panel, center column) designs, that are compatible with “stiffer” towers.
