💡 Continuing to showcase the work we did for UKCDR annual stakeholder event, spotlight this week on Transforming Approaches to Modern Slavery Despite global efforts, the impact of modern slavery remains prevalent around the world. This research project, a collaboration between the University of Liverpool and partners, including survivors of modern slavery, deployed arts-based methodologies to establish networks to combat this issue. Across eight African countries and India, it helped survivors and allies to tell their stories and promoted a broad range of benefits, ranging from awareness raising to socioeconomic success. Our director Tiziana Ferrari joined this week's ESFRI-EOSC Task Force Policy Workshop in Milan: "We were honoured to participate in the 'Interfacing the EU Node' panel. EGI contributes to the node with expertise in federated service management and technical solutions for federated authentication and authorization, multi-cloud access, and data analytics. In particular, the credit-based access of the #EOSCEUNode could be tested and adopted by other nodes as a way to sponsor cross-institute and cross-boundary access to data, services, and tools that will be shared at the pan-European level, contributing to business models for the sustainability of open access in Europe." A huge part of the work we do at LGNZ is connecting members from across the motu. While it’s great that elected members have peers around their council table, it’s also important they can find support and inspiration from other councils and communities. This is particularly important when it comes to groups of people that historically don’t have as much representation in local government. That’s why, as well as holding events like SuperLocal for members to connect, we have a couple of key networks that help our members connect. One is our Young Elected Members network, for members under the age of 40 (yes, under 40 is still considered ‘young’ in local government). The other is Te Maruata, for Māori elected members. While we hold events for these networks throughout the year, the most-attended events are often the hui we hold alongside our SuperLocal conference. That’s just one of the benefits of having so many members in one place! These hui are crucial opportunities for our networks to advance their kaupapa, and to get support, inspiration and ideas from like-minded peers. But wait! There's more! We're also having an entire conference for our Community Board members – making sure they have the crucial opportunity to connect with fellow members from across the motu. So, if you’re a Young Elected Member, a Māori member or a Community Board member, be sure to sign up to these hui and/or Community Board Conference. We’d love to see you there.
