Phil's off to Zagreb next week, talking straight about AI in marketing with the Atlantic Grupa team. They're proper grown up folks - running 16 factories across 8 countries, shipping everything from coffee to pharmaceuticals to about 60,000 sales points. The kind of scale where AI could be genuinely transformative or just another tech fad, depending on how you approach it. He'll be cutting through the hype about AI marketing (and there's plenty of that about), focusing on what's coming next. If you're at Atlantic Grupa and fancy a proper chat about this stuff, grab Phil after his session. He loves a good debate about the future of things, especially if coffee's involved (and given they own Barcaffe, we're assuming there will be).

Is the end of push marketing being sped up by AI SDRs and similar autonomous tools? Cold outreach has been trending towards zero for a while, and that decline is accelerating. As it gets easier for buyers to access and analyze information, their ability to decide what they need and want will only grow. Future marketing teams need to focus entirely on creating better, richer, high-quality content—clearly showcasing real product benefits. The shift has to be here. Low-quality content, clickbait, or empty marketing lingo will be quickly exposed. And don’t shy away from producing detailed, comprehensive documents. Humans might not read every word, but AI will—and it can summarize if needed.

Bringing humanity back to marketing doesn't mean being anti-AI. In fact, I'm a huge fan of leveraging AI to better marketing. In The Poetics, we've been creating an AI Brand Brain by giving AI specific business knowledge so we can have more meaningful interactions. And I just saw that Russ at theCLICK has been working on something similar, so now I'm incorporating some of his tactics as well. I've found AI to be a very cost-effective assistant. But it has to be trained if you want it to produce valuable output. Are you using an AI Marketing Assistant?

There's been a lot of hype about how AI is going to disrupt marketing, and it will. But perhaps not in the way we're all anticipating... Think about - AI = algorithmic intelligence. Programmatic decision-making based on a pre-defined set of "IF, THEN, ELSE" conditions dreamed up by a software engineer in a lab. Are the arts REALLY the aspect of human work most likely to be replaced by something that is all about following prescribed rules? I think not. I believe the reality will be much more pragmatic, and potentially a lot more devastating for the field of marketing. Ask yourself how AI will impact procurement in large corporations. Are you ready to create proposals designed to tick the boxes of an AI-bot? Does marketing even have a place in a world where all is decided on balance by where the 1's and 0's land? How do you sell a product or a service when the "decision-maker" looks like the second chair from the left? Or am I completely off base? Either way I'm looking forward to the discussion!

Everyone's talking about generative AI in marketing. But here’s why it’s more than a trend: 1. It creates personalized content in seconds. 2. It generates visuals without a design team. 3. It automates customer interactions with chatbots. 4. It analyzes data instantly for real-time strategy tweaks. The future of marketing? It’s here – and powered by AI. Founders who embrace AI will dominate. Those who ignore it risk being left behind. ♻️ Repost if you're ready to master AI-driven marketing.

The promise of AI Marketing is everywhere, but it's noisier than a 5th grade band recital in May. I recently had conversations with executives of leading brands that revealed the current challenge of marketing AI to marketing leaders. One said, "AI sounds exciting, it reminds me of the launch of the internet, but how do we know what value an AI tool really brings? We need help separating the hype from how it will actually help us accomplish our goals." The other was more along the lines of "Everyone talks about how AI makes things easier but I'm not seeing how their AI will impact our revenue. They aren't connecting their AI solution to the business goals I have to answer to." So there it is—AI has a marketing problem. Ask your vendors and platforms who promise AI-enabled marketing solutions how it will help your business achieve real goals. If they can't connect the dots to revenue, for example, then their AI might just be a distraction.

It’s time to spill the beans. I teamed up with the amazing Catinca to co-create W3bWizz, a place where AI, tech, and marketing come together in ways that are genuinely interesting (and sometimes pretty hilarious). What’s W3b Wizz about? · Simple, no-nonsense takes on AI and tech. · Marketing ideas that are clever and practical. · And a community for people who like tech, but don’t mind laughing at it too. I’m the one geeking out over AI breakthroughs and tech trends (think algorithms, chatbots, and the occasional existential crisis over robots) and Catinca’s all about making marketing relatable, turning big ideas into practical insights and keeping things fun and fresh. If you’re into AI, tech and marketing, follow W3bWizz.

One topic I'll debate forever: Offer > Personalization I have huge respect for people who leverage AI for genuine personalization. I do it myself, too. But no AI generated sentence, insight, or callout will make your outbound campaigns successful. Offer is the KEY factor in getting people interested in doing a business with you. And most of the time, it comes down to doing what 99% of your competitors aren't willing to do. P.S. Your core offer should never be mentioned in your outbound campaigns. Wake up. It's 2024. Marketing has changed.
