One of the most exciting challenges in adaptive facade design is incorporating modular patterns while harmonizing aesthetic appeal with mechanical functionality. In this project, a dynamic mechanism inspired by scissor-like triangular modules was designed and fabricated. Laser scanning is a game-changer for retrofitting projects! On a personal project to retrofit a 1980s house in Milton, Apostolos is using the Archangel 3D laser scanner to precisely map out existing structures and services, making it easier to plan, quantify, and seamlessly fit new elements. When working with existing buildings, it's really important to find out as much as you can about them so that you can make informed design decisions. With our own in-house laser scanner, we’re able to directly import scans into our drawings, streamlining the entire process from vision to design. The house retrofit is designed and modelled using the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP), with the aim to get certification as an EnerPHit – the Passive House Certificate for retrofits. At Archangel Architects Ltd, we’re passionate about developing our technical skills and sustainable design approaches, so we can bring new expertise to every client project.
