In the spirit of spreading kindness and gratitude, I am thankful to be nearing a year in at Mayo Clinic. Being in Strategy leadership at Mayo is my dream role for a few reasons: 1) 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. My own healthcare experiences (including years of dismissive misdiagnosis as my kidney atrophied; this care was not at Mayo) have engendered a deeply-personal passion for patient-centered care. Back in January as I was in the last stage of the recruitment process, my husband and I watched PBS's The Mayo Clinic documentary. As the film discussed Mayo's commitment to our primary value, my husband said "Mayo is a perfect fit for you." It was a compliment I will cherish forever. 2) 𝗠𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀. I have the honor of working with strategists, systems engineers, clinicians, leaders and partners who are extraordinarily bright and kind. They help me develop and make work more enjoyable. I strive to do the same for them. 3) 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿, 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. The work is difficult, impactful and different each day. I am energized by the intellectual challenge of solving multifaceted problems and navigating ambiguous opportunities. My colleagues and I are transforming our operations for a more agile and digitally-enabled future, crafting guidelines for responsible data usage in GenAI innovations, supporting our ever-evolving workforce, and transforming clinical services to expand our capacity to cure the most serious and complex medical challenges. We truly get to solve the unsolvable. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!
Wishing a joyous Thanksgiving to our valued patients, visitors and dedicated staff! Consider the transformative power of spreading kindness and gratitude, which can not only shape your perspective and attitude but also positively influence your overall well-being.

🦃A Thanksgiving Reflection on the Privilege of Caring This Thanksgiving, while many gather with loved ones around the table, I’ll be working. And though I sometimes feel the pull of FOMO for the laughter and connection of framily (not a typo) dinners, I know this: it’s not a sacrifice. On this day of gratitude, I’m reflecting on one of (my) life’s greatest honors: the privilege of caring for others. In healthcare, we are invited into people’s lives during their most vulnerable moments—times of joy, fear, hope, or uncertainty. What stays with me are not grand gestures, but quiet, profound ones: holding a hand in the ICU (YES- touch is powerful), offering words of comfort, or simply being present when someone needs to know they’re not alone. These moments remind me that caring for others is not just a profession—it’s a calling. This Thanksgiving, I’m deeply grateful for: ✨The patients who trust us to walk alongside them. ✨The families who remind us of the power of love and resilience. ✨The colleagues who embody compassion and dedication every day. (You know who you are!) ✨ MY health (as imperfect as it is) Healthcare is hard, but it is also deeply meaningful. It teaches us about connection, courage, and the shared humanity that binds us all. As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s remember the power of care, the importance of gratitude, and the impact we can have when we show up for one another. Happy Thanksgiving to all who care, who heal, and who love. #Thanksgiving2024 #Gratitude #HealthcareHeroes #PatientCare #Personalgrowth #Medicine #Compassion #Resilience #CareMatters #HumanConnection #Thankful #HealthcareProfessionals #leadership #LinkedInCommunity

🎄 Day 23: Protecting Against Poisoning This Festive Season 🎄 Christmas is a time for joy, but it’s also important to stay mindful of potential poisoning risks, especially with children exploring new gifts and festive decorations. Here's what you need to know to keep everyone safe. Common Poisoning Risks at Christmas: ☠️ For children: Button batteries, cleaning products, medicines, or alcohol left within reach. ☠️ For all ages: Plants and berries, carbon monoxide from faulty heaters, and improperly stored chemicals. Signs and Symptoms of Poisoning: ⚠️ Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain. ⚠️ Difficulty breathing or unusual drowsiness. ⚠️ Burns or redness around the mouth (from swallowing corrosive substances). ⚠️ Sudden confusion, seizures, or unconsciousness. What to Do if Someone is Poisoned: 1️⃣ Stay calm and assess the situation. 2️⃣ Call 999 immediately if the person is unconscious, struggling to breathe, or having a seizure. 3️⃣ If the poison is swallowed, keep the person sitting up – do not try to make them vomit and don’t let them eat or drink. Sips of water may be given ONLY if the poison is corrosive. 4️⃣ If the poison is on their skin or in their eyes, rinse thoroughly with water for at least 20 minutes. 5️⃣ Gather as much information as you can about the substance (e.g. packaging or label) to share with medical professionals. Do’s and Don’ts: ✅ Do seek medical help promptly. ✅ Do ensure any remaining substance is safely out of reach. ❌ Don’t induce vomiting – this can cause further harm. ❌ Don’t wait for symptoms to develop – act quickly. 💡 When to call 999: Always call if the person is unresponsive, having difficulty breathing, or you are unsure of what to do. 👉 Let’s spread awareness and ensure everyone stays safe this festive season! #PoisoningAwareness #FirstAidTips #AdventCalendar #StaySafe #ChristmasCare #FirstAidMatters #SaveLives #EmergencyCare #Hertfordshire #HertfordshireBusiness

Here are some essential warnings and tips to keep your pets safe this July 4th: 💙 🐾Keep Pets Indoors: Fireworks and loud noises can frighten pets, leading to anxiety and attempts to escape. Keep them indoors in a safe, quiet room. 🐾Create a Calm Environment: Use calming aids like anxiety wraps, pheromone sprays, or play soothing music to help your pets feel more secure. 🐾Avoid Human Food: BBQs and parties often involve foods that are toxic to pets, such as chocolate, grapes, and alcohol. Keep food and drinks out of reach. 🐾ID and Microchip: Ensure your pets are wearing identification tags and are microchipped in case they get lost. 🐾Fireworks and Pets Don’t Mix: Keep fireworks, sparklers, and glow sticks away from pets to prevent burns, ingestion, and other injuries. 🐾Watch for Signs of Stress: Panting, pacing, hiding, and excessive barking are signs your pet may be stressed.
