Northern California Grantmakers reposted this
👋🏼 Hello from day one of Philanthropy California’s Sacramento Advocacy Day! The Northern California Grantmakers team joined our colleagues at SoCal Grantmakers and Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, together with 20+ of our members, for the first day of advocacy activities at the State Capitol. We started the day with a panel conversation highlighting the state of public affairs in Sacramento, then heard from Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency Secretary Tomiquia Moss about the importance of public-private partnerships. Our delegation split up in the afternoon to attend dozens of legislative and agency visits where our members had the opportunity to meet with their district representatives, share about their regional priorities, and offer themselves as resources and partners for future collaboration. We even got a surprise from Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Kim Johnson! What keeps coming up in our conversations is how critical the nonprofit sector is in our state, and specifically grassroots community-based organizations, who are the trusted messengers on endless issues in their communities. It’s clear that many of the state leaders we met with are aligned with our members on ensuring CBOs have the capacity and sustainability to serve their communities, not just in a crisis, but for the long-term. We look forward to continuing the conversations and following up on opportunities for partnership. On to day two!
