Today, the New York State Education Department hosted a transformative professional learning event for educators statewide, focusing on effective strategies to engage students in learning about the Holocaust and other genocides. The event took place at the newly opened Anne Frank The Exhibition at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. As the first complete recreation of the Anne Frank Annex outside of Amsterdam, this exhibit offers a unique and immersive opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of Holocaust history. Grateful to see this kind of thoughtful, immersive PD for New York educators. The Anne Frank Annex is a powerful tool, and giving teachers both context and student-centered strategies is key to making this education stick.
Also, an excellent session by NYSED panel speaker Lisa Pingelski!
Wonderful! What a perfect place to launch this.
Betty Rosa Thank you for sharing this truly important event 🙏🏻

1wGlad to see this important subject addressed by the NYSED and the Center for Jewish History. The Holocaust education mandate has perhaps never been more urgent. Holocaust education remains a race against time and Holocaust deniers. October 7, 2023 created a louder, more vile and dangerous batch of antisemites and civil rights deniers, writ large. Thank you to Regent Tilles, Mr. Glickman, Dr. Bossert, and others for efforts to forge a path of light and historicity during a most challenging time.
