Interesting article but the U.S. (as decided by 52% of voters) is turning inward with massive tariffs to limit imports and a mantra of “no more foreign wars” and “America First!” China has been moving forward with their investment strategy and they have been successful in Latin American and Africa in making major political and security advances. The US message of America First seems to be an open invitation to China to continue their strategy of using trade and infrastructure loans to become the dominant international power. That may be good or bad depending on your political philosophy. We fought a long battle against Maoist China influence in Peru 🇵🇪 but times have changed. I think of the good people we lost in that fight and how much the world has changed since 1996 when we were lectured by the MRTA on how great Marxism is for the masses. Unfortunately, in my opinion, I see a decline in US involvement overseas.

Rolux LLC We sold our first machines into the USA almost exactly a year ago and it's been quite a ride. Lots of people have reached out to me about getting their products into the US market. I think most of them have ended the chats having learned very little, but I have learned plenty. It's helped me to realise what we did was not rocket science. It was largely common sense. Most of our story is about mistakes we made, most of which were avoidable but mistakes always seem easy to avoid with the benefit of hindsight. If you are thinking about the US as a potential market, make sure you do your homework and realise the market is enormous but even a niche within a niche could be bigger than your SA business. Be prepared to be working while everyone else is sleeping. A 6 or 7 hour time difference will do that to you. Be prepared to be the voice and face of your brand and make sure that your product offers value for money, is easy to buy and does what it says on the box. Whatever you do, do it whole heartedly. If you don't commit you will probably fail. Most of all realise that Americans and Saffas have a lot in common. Language being an obvious one but for me it's the principle of getting off the couch and solving your own problems that resonates. As JFK said “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country” On this very important day in America, Independence Day, I'd like to thank each American who has helped us, encouraged us, criticized us and laughed with and at us.
