January 26 is India's Republic Day. The day commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, two and a half years after India's declaration of independence and its traumatic partition. By all means, the Constitution of India, drafted under the inspiring leadership of Bhimrao Ambedkar and a team of super-enlightened souls, is a most remarkable document, unequivocally a milestone in the history of constitutional literature of humankind. My personal blessing is that I have a long history of spending Republic Days on Indian soil. I have witnessed a gradual change in its relationship with the ideas of its Constitution, followed later by a forthright modification of its political discourse. Anno 2025, has the Constitution of India come under pressure? In the attached piece I am asking the question without answering it. Because opinions are easy, but what do we know? Most of the politicians do not have an understanding of the Republic Day. They form the notion that it is another kind of Independence Day, just to hoist the flag. But there is a difference between India becoming Independent nation and later on becoming Republic. In a Republic nation, we are guided by the rule of law, Constitution lays down the path. In a republic nation, no man is subject to tyranny by the government. Even if a government belongs to a particular party, which may or may not be communal, they are guided to protect the minorities of all communities, CONSTIUTION DOES NOT GO BY MAJORITY RULE OR RULER. #republicday #coi #indian
