#OutNow New episode of InFocus with Ejaz Haider #Subscribe to CSSPR YouTube Watch the in-depth and intellectually stimulating conversation between Ejaz Haider and Dr. Stephen Herzog, James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, exploring the complexities of nuclear risks, the challenges and prospects for the revival of arms control, and the evolving dynamics of nuclear deterrence. Dr. Herzog underscored the strategic implications of the expanding number of nuclear-armed states, framing it as a significant challenge in the current global security landscape. On the Russo-Ukrainian war, Dr. Herzog contended that while it is unlikely to trigger widespread nuclear proliferation, there remains a concerning lack of robust commitment by states to the principles and processes of nonproliferation.

Happy New Month of September! 1.Don't try to do better than others. Instead, try to do better when things get tough. 2.Don't wait until your house is on fire to plan for an emergency. 3.Don't assume everyone eats the same amount of food; some people eat a bite at a time. Be more considerate. 5.Give everyone an opportunity, the world can and will always make space for them. 6.Always keep your history in mind. Make sure you're proud of who you are. 7.Remember, no matter what life throws at you, you matter, and we need you. I appeared on InFocus with Ejaz Haider for the Centre for Security, Strategy and Policy Research (CSSPR) in an episode covering the current state of global politics regarding nuclear weapons. Our conversation focused on great power competition in both the nuclear and emerging technology domains, and how they interact. We discussed what this may mean for longstanding deterrence policies, calculations of nuclear risk, arms control, and (non)proliferation. https://lnkd.in/dPcgVPxk

🌌 Exploring Deterrence Theory Through Fiction and Reality 🌌 Dive into the fascinating world of deterrence theory with my latest blog post! Inspired by Cixin Liu's "Death's End," I explore the concept of "dark forest deterrence" and its parallels to real-world strategies, from the Cold War's nuclear standoffs to modern global security challenges. Learn how the lessons from Liu's imaginative narrative can illuminate the delicate balance of power, trust, and fear that underpins international relations today. #DeterrenceTheory #GlobalSecurity #CixinLiu #Death'sEnd #InternationalRelations #NuclearDeterrence #CyberSecurity #FictionAndReality

A new paper alert! Together with Valerio Vignoli, we just published a new paper in Contemporary Security Policy, studying state preferences in TPNW MSPs. Our result? There is a lot of variation, and the membership in regional institutions (NWFZs) explains a lot of it. Where fancy method meets cool topic. Read now in #OpenAccess https://lnkd.in/gnY_ZqvQ

I’ve been asked by some for my dissertation. Well it’s been long enough that I can post it open source. It’s a few years old, yet still has some things in it that we should continue to look at to strengthen our national security. Some of the recommendations are already under going research or action. It’s amazing what I get to do daily to strengthen national security and deterrence. https://lnkd.in/ebSrbrvp

"WORLD CEASE FIRE" ### Address to the American People, Especially my US Veterans and Attendees of the Aspen Security Forum 2024: #### The Aspen Institute: The Aspen Institute, a global nonprofit organization, exists to ignite human potential, build understanding, and create new possibilities for a better world. In the majestic mountains away from the corridors of Washington, D.C., and other national capitals, this forum presents a unique opportunity to discuss global problems in a non-partisan manner. Such discussions are essential, especially when the threat of total world war and global devastation by nuclear weapons looms over us; just a button away in the skies above. #### Blinken at ASPEN U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in addressing the situation in Palestine, stated: "Building a state that will not be a threat to its neighbor." This principle should also be applied to Ukraine. A neutral Ukraine, without the necessity of NATO alignment against Russia, could foster peace and stability. The Cold War mentality towards Russia must be reconsidered in light of its transformation. #### EFM: My Personal Talk for Aspen Russia is no longer an atheist communist nation but a Christian Orthodox nation. The Russian people have a profound tradition rooted in their faith. Similarly, the United States remains a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles, with a diverse array of Christian denominations. Where secularism in Europe and current U.S. political and economic policies have gone astray in their belief;:that individualism can exist without morality, detached from the Judaic-Christian Family foundation. The religious faith of the Russian and American people is more aligned with each other than with nations like North Korea, China, and Iran. The interpretation of Christian scripture is becoming increasingly relevant in global leadership. Just as we recognized the evil in Hitler; we must avoid a future without Christ, which represents a collective anti-Christ. Both Russia and the United States are not nations of an anti-Christ. With this understanding, it is time for a cease-fire in Ukraine. Moreover, let it be known that the deployment of nuclear weapons in space is the greatest danger to mankind, surpassing even the threat of global warming. We must cease all wars today to allow the peace of Christ to reign over our planet. Technology is advancing faster than our governments and educational leaders can comprehend. Therefore, we must establish a world cease-fire now before someone pushes a button that could destroy humankind. #### The Need for Unity and Morality The United States, with its foundation in Judaic-Christian values and diverse Christian denominations, and “Russia and Ukraine” with their deep-rooted Christian Orthodox faith, share more in common than their differences; This commonality should be the bedrock of a new era of collaboration, not conflict. https://lnkd.in/eVvjRYbC
