211 LA is partnering with Hilton and American Express to coordinate the distribution of Hilton hotel stays for even more people impacted by the LA Wildfires. Hilton will provide 20,000 hotel room nights available at no charge. Help My Beloved Angelenos impacted by fires. Here’s ideas: Buying clothing/ Monetary support directly to families who are now in others’ homes (ask what is needed) used cars, and helping hands all are needed now and tomorrow. Red Cross is helping to provide shelter. Volunteers needed regularly. Mental health, refocusing priorities, remembering spiritual health and positive outlook thru these massive transitions that affect every moment of the day until some stability is established. These can be exhausting. Volunteer and Take care of yourself, too. Balance. Help and reset. Work, play and rest. Return. Compassion in Action. You, we make the difference. Go.

One act of living better can change a community. Now, imagine if we can spread that impact to 100 communities. In November, we challenged our Alair offices to commit to 100 ACTS OF LIVING BETTER over the following year. We’ve united to tackle food insecurity, a pressing issue that affects millions of people across the U.S. and Canada. Today, on World Hunger Day, we’re excited to share that Alair has raised over $40,000 and donated over 140 hours so far to organizations dedicated to combating food insecurity. ChangeMakers-Episode 6: Most people don’t know the immense work that Samaritan's Purse Canada takes on globally. It would be a lengthy document to list their humanitarian and compassion projects worldwide. In this episode, as chief storyteller, I was asked to document one of these projects, two festivals for victims of severe flooding in the Northwest Territories. I met many hard-working people in Fort Smith and Hay River who were raising families and struggling to get by. There weren’t the auspicious signs of wealth we are accustomed to: no million-dollar homes, new F-150s, Teslas, or even Starbucks. Most people there felt like the forgotten people of Canada. I had certainly never thought about going there before. While in Yellowknife, my team visited Old Town Bikeworks. Instead of selling upscale eBikes, they were a hub for recycling and upscaling old bikes so that anyone who needed a bike could afford one. We visited Bullocks Bistro, a fish restaurant in a crumbling old house. No one minded the rustic setting as this place was packed and the fish was excellent. I captured festivals put on by church volunteers from Red Deer. Their team brought everything in trailers and vans: bouncy castles, cotton candy, yup, the whole works! The community came out in droves, and the response was pure delight. Folks told us that we gave them hope for the future and that somebody cares. Samaritan’s Purse returned the next winter to put on more festivals. Samaritan’s Purse responds to needs globally. This includes disaster relief and assistance such as the LA wildfires to distant projects in Africa, Asia and Central and South America. They provide wells and drinking water, nutrition, shoebox gifts, medical care, and long-term community investments. Thank you Samaritan’s Purse, you are changing the world for good.
