Redwood Materials recycled 20 GWh of batteries in 2024. How many EVs and PHEVs would that be? 20 GWh would be: 666,667 Mini Cooper SEs (30 kWh battery) 250,000 Tesla Model Ys (80 kWh battery) 215,000 Rivian R1S' w/ Standard Pack (93 kWh battery) 162,602 Cybertrucks (123 kWh battery) 152,671 F-150 Lightning w/ Extended Range (131 kWh battery) 100,000 Hummer EVs (200 kWh battery) That's also 3.3x as much battery material used in PHEV's in 2023 in the US! (Estimating 300k PHEVs with an average of 20 kWh of batteries). Assuming a cost of $100/kWh, this is $2 billion worth of batteries that were recycled! I don't know Redwood's cost to recycle but I'm sure it can't be more expensive than mining even at moderate scale. I'm very optimistic about the future of battery recycling - how about you!
