These versatile systems are capable of enhancing transportation safety and lowering accident rates by offering a range of warning components that include overtaking vehicles, assistance in changing lanes, intersection collision, signal violation etc. A revolutionary approach indeed, Vehicular Communication systems are transforming traditional vehicles into interconnected and intelligent vehicles that can seamlessly communicate with each other and the surrounding infrastructure too. Information sharing via real-time communication is easier with wireless communication between vehicles and infrastructure. Vehicular transportation is becoming easier, greener and safer! The innovation driving this wonderful technology is Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). In the last few years, the smart transportation market has seen exponential growth, driven by technological innovations that improve safety, efficiency and sustainability. Recently, the Federal Communications Commission approved new rules for the use of the 5.9 GHz spectrum with Cellular Vehicle-To-Everything (C-V2X) technology, progressively replacing older technologies such as DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communications). New 5G Use Cases in Public Transport 😊 DNB Malaysia, Ericsson and eMooVit signed an MoU to test various 5G-enabled use cases on an electric autonomous bus. These include in-vehicle 5G public Wi-Fi, real-time remote monitoring, journey log collection and in-vehicle CCTV, all of which aim to improve passenger safety, reliability and operational cost efficiency. Future trials will explore integrating the autonomous bus with smart city infrastructure and enabling 5G remote driving for emergency situations. Malaysia’s world-class 5G network provides the digital infrastructure required for autonomous vehicles to operate more safely, efficiently and effectively. 5G also facilitates improved communication between vehicles and with infrastructure such as traffic signals, road signs and centralized traffic management systems.
