We believe that it is important for every employee to feel that their day-to-day work is connected to the sustainability of society and to work together with customers to resolve sustainability issues. The seventh MS&AD Sustainability Contest was held in Tokyo on November 25, 2024, we encouraged our employees to take on the challenge of solving social issues and sought the idea connected "earning power" of the MS&AD Group. Approximately 360 applicants submitted to the contest from all over the world to address a wide range of sustainability issues, included Climate Change, Natural Capital, Loss Prevention/Mitigation, Human Capital, and Respect for Human Rights. The seven presentations were held at the contest, and Grand Prize was awarded to "Bridge Inspection Support Tool Using AI", which was jointly developed by Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance, Susono City in Shizuoka Prefecture and Aioi R&D Lab based in Oxford, UK. The participants heard the precious story that the presenters found out the solution of the sustainability issues their customer faced. Through the contest, every participant was able to deeper understanding of the importance of relationship between their day-to-day work and sustainability issues. DHSC Design for Life Policy Paper ♻️ The UK Government has launched the “Design for Life” strategy which presents a comprehensive plan to transition the UK’s MedTech sector to a more sustainable, circular economy, with 30 main recommendations to start between 2025 and 2031. I've summarised the recommendations and problem statements in the below diagram. The roadmap really captures the scale of the challenge and complexity of the issues and identifies areas where leadership, collaboration, and behavioural shifts are crucial. My only criticism is that the strategy lacks ambition in exploring more robust policy levers, such as regulation. It also has very long timelines, which might reflect the current financial climate and the scale of the challenge for industry and for the NHS.
