An Astute class submarine has successfully docked down in our Devonport facility for the first time - after being welcomed into 15 Dock to continue the next phase of her base maintenance period. This critical milestone follows the completion of extensive modernisation works to the dock, part of a series of infrastructure upgrades taking place across Devonport, which are helping us to deliver the Royal Navy’s assets safely back to sea and further supporting the Astute Class maintenance cycles in the coming years. John Gane, Devonport’s Managing Director, said: “The Astute class submarines are the UK’s largest and most powerful attack submarines – a critical asset in supporting the defence of our nation. "Docking down an Astute-Class submarine in Devonport for the first time is a great achievement and testament to the engineering know-how and critical capabilities of our workforce, who’ve delivered this complex programme so far at Devonport – we’re looking forward to delivering the next chapter of this important maintenance period.”
