🧐 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬? This was one of the questions we explored at the workshop we organized during the recent MOTIVATE XR consortium meeting. During the event it was evident that all partners in Motivate XR are highly engaged in mitigating and safeguarding negative and positive Social Ethical and Legal consequences that using state-of-the-art technology may bring. The workshop focused on five specific issues that XR technologies may cause if left unaddressed. Participants considered mitigation measures for these issues from the perspective of the Motivate XR project results and its pilot use cases. Initial analysis shows that a multitude of actors are involved in ensuring the acceptability of the Social, Ethical and Legal consequences of XR technologies. The workshop confirmed that the listed nine types of actors are key and showed that all types of actors have significant roles to play.
