The Paris Solar Park, located in Kenosha County, is southeastern Wisconsin’s first large-scale renewable energy project. With nearly 500,000 bifacial solar panels producing 200 MW of power—enough to power 60,000 homes—this facility marks a major step toward a sustainable energy future. We Energies and its partners have shown a deep commitment to renewable energy, investing in this innovative project that includes a 110 MW battery storage system (expected in 2025) for energy use even after sunset. This reflects the company’s larger goals to reduce carbon emissions and provide reliable, affordable clean energy for decades to come.
The first large renewable energy project built in southeastern Wisconsin is fully up and running — and now providing power to customers. The Paris Solar Park features nearly 500,000 solar panels capable of providing enough energy to power about 60,000 homes. Read more about the project in comments. ⬇️

Costa Samaras is right: President Carter provided great leadership in promoting energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) in response to the 1970’s energy crisis. In addition to starting the DOE and SERI (now NREL), his administration also: - introduced the National Energy Plan in 1977. - enacted the 1978 National Energy Conservation Policy Act (NECPA). - provided tax credits for EE and solar energy. - installed solar panels on the White House. - set a 20% by 2020 U.S. renewable energy goal. On a personal note, Carter’s DOE funded the National Solar Water Heater Workshop at ASU, where I was a Graduate Research Assistant from 1979 to 1981: - I taught homeowners to build their own solar water heater systems. At the end of our hands-on workshops they left with two excellent solar thermal panels, a pump assembly, a controls package, operating manual, and piping to install their systems at home. - I assembled and shipped kits to colleges in 48 other U.S. states to duplicate the program. - I managed research at the ASU Solar Water Heater Test Yard. While some of Carter’s initiatives lost momentum under subsequent administrations, his groundwork laid the foundation for modern renewable energy policies and programs. Many of his ideas, such as efficiency standards, tax incentives, and investments in clean energy research, remain cornerstones of U.S. energy policy today. May Jimmy Carter rest in peace…
Director, CMU Scott Institute for Energy Innovation. Former White House OSTP Principal Assistant Director for Energy and Chief Advisor for the Clean Energy Transition
"There is no longer any question that solar energy is both feasible & also cost-effective...Solar energy will not pollute our air or water...No one can ever embargo the Sun or interrupt its delivery to us. But we must work together to turn our vision and our dream into a solar reality" -President Carter President Carter started the Department of Energy and started the Solar Energy Research Institute (which later became NREL). President Carter put solar panels on the West Wing in 1979 to heat hot water. Today we are reaping the rewards of cheap solar, wind, and batteries because of the investments in energy R&D President Carter made. Rest In Peace.
