Osaka, Japan is gearing up to host the World Expo 2025, an event that convenes countries, private firms, civil society groups and non-governmental organizations every five years to discuss and find solutions to pressing global challenges. Held over six months from 13th April to 13th October on the man-made island of Yumeshima which measures 155ha and spans about the size of 220 football fields, Expo 2025 will see pavilions and exhibitors from 158 countries and regions and is expected to attract many visitors from all over the world.   To tackle the plastic waste generated at 7-Eleven stores situated at the event, Mitsui and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation have partnered up to collect and process the used plastics, including food containers and SEVEN CAFE Smoothie cups. Mitsui will establish a collection system, managing logistics such as sorting and delivery, while Mitsubishi Chemical will process the collected plastics using its plastics-to-oil conversion technology at its Ibaraki plant.   Together, we aim to support plastic recycling efforts and contribute to the advancement of a circular economy, while contributing to a clean and conducive environment at Expo 2025.
