As Acorn Interactive Inc moves forward, stay tuned as we delve further into #rolebasedaccesscontrol and #rolebasedencryption for enterprise layer applications. We're a bit of an open book with process, and now that we're well into our commercialization phase, we're going to continue to build team and company capacities for high functioning application development. Far too often we prioritize user interface and user experience deliverables (VERY important), and leave systems and server level considerations as an afterthought. Acorn strives to harmonize the suite of concerns that make software systems work. This includes factoring in end user concerns, as in humans like ourselves, and machine layer concerns to perform background processes and produce meaningful analytics to evolve a system into a number of meaningful contexts. Stay tuned! https://lnkd.in/gkiyhFBb

07/19 event reminds me to write down this article and in a sense is almost followed everywhere as an engineering best practice while rolling out new features in any of the cloud-based applications. So, what is that - staged roll out and what does that mean - Always deploy new features or version of an application gradually to a subset of users before a full-scale release. Now we will see the step-by-step instructions to implement this rollout strategy- 1. Planning the rollout which involves defining the various stages(e.g., alpha, beta, GA). So how would you create stages and for the sake of simplicity for now we can think criteria like which all devices this new version would go first, what is the critic al user segment which needs this functionality or more importantly what is the user segment where can made this feature available and lastly it could also be based on regions 2. Wisely configure flags to control the availability of new versions of the application and importantly make sure that cloud-based application can toggle features on or off dynamically 3. Now start with the deployment of new version to the first stage and the respective segment 4. Monitor performance, collect feedback and fix issues 5. Slowly increase the coverage of this newer version to larger user segments or different regions per se 6. Make sure we are going to continue monitoring and collect the feedback 7. Once application shows the stability then roll out the updates to all the users Importantly, few additional best practices could be - 1. Always use CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments(Jenkins, GiLab CI, AzureDevOps) 2. Implement automatic rollback mechanisms in case of critical issues 3. Continue to monitor post deployment always(Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, ELK Stack) 4. Use of feature flag services is very important(LaunchDarkly, FeatureFlow, Split.io) 5. Make sure proper communication with the users regarding new changes #CloudApplications #CloudComputing #DeploymentStrategy #CI/CD #StagedRollout #ContinuousDelivery #FeatureFlags
