Be specific: highlight who did what and why it mattered, avoiding egocentric language like "my team accomplished X." #Encouragecollaboration : Help your team gain exposure by encouraging them to work with other departments or take the lead on cross-functional projects. Making the invisible visible Several key points stood out for me in this short article from HBR. Firstly, if we want to shine a light on our teams, we need to focus on their impact not on how long or hard they work. This paradigm shift in thinking can become a cultural norm, and you can be part of making it so! Secondly, there is a competence in collaboration. It’s not just down to luck or personality. It’s a set of skills which can be taught, practised and rewarded. If you want your team to be taken seriously, develop their soft power skills alongside their technical and relational ones. And thirdly, the article suggests recognising both the high achievers AND the steady performers. Organisations need both, and some senior leaders need reminding of this.
