Mercari’s B2C e-commerce platform Mercari Shops is home to many business operators, both individual and corporate—but did you know it’s also used by local governments to find new homes for school equipment, excess disaster relief supplies, oversized waste, and other items no longer needed in their communities? Since the first government-run shop opened in November 2021, 50 towns and cities across Japan have joined us in the effort to reduce waste and create a circular economy, and we’re working to expand our partnerships and initiatives even further in 2025!
