What's the origins of illuminated "Bollards"? The word "bollard" itself is fascinating: originally a 14th-century Norse term for a "hard tree trunk," it evolved into a mooring post for ships in the 17th and 18th centuries. By the 19th century, bollards were repurposed for traffic control and pedestrian safety. With the introduction of metal halide lamps in the early 1900s, illuminated bollards grew in popularity over the next 80 years and became an essential element in streetscapes, parks, and urban designs. Since the early 2000s and the advent of LED technology, illuminated bollards have brought energy efficiency and design flexibility, transforming their applications. Today’s bollards serve a variety of functions: from guiding pathways and providing illumination to integrating with vehicle charging stations. They can be grouped or configured in many different ways to create a striking look in any outdoor space! #Lighting #LED #Bollards #UrbanDesign #Innovation #Sustainability #originstory #ledlights #outdoorlighting #lightinghistory #streetscapelighting

HOW CEILING HEIGHTS IMPACT OUR BEHAVIOUR. Most of us feel a sense of awe and perhaps even spirituality when we enter a big grand ornate cathedral Why? Well the short answer is because they were designed to have this effect on us and there are a few ways in which it works. According to science and our human physiology, our eyes tend to role upwards when we think of large spaces or distant times and upward roles of the eyes also accompany intense religious experiences, meditative states and hallucinatory states. So when we enter a building of vast scale, our eyes are drawn upwards towards the ceiling triggering the part of the brain responsible for abstract thought. This is also by the way why it is important to have high ceilings in creative offices and low ceilings in spaces more meant for task driven functions.
