Here are some takeaways: Electrode Materials: Choosing the right materials, such as nickel-based alloys, is essential for durability and efficiency in the challenging environment of alkaline electrolysis, supporting consistent hydrogen production rates. Electrode Coatings: Advanced coatings, like nickel, are transforming electrode performance. They significantly increase efficiency and reduce hydrogen production costs by enhancing conductivity, boosting catalytic activity, and providing greater resistance to corrosion. This extends the electrode lifespan and makes green hydrogen more economically viable. Catalytic Performance: Improved catalytic coatings and surface treatments are lowering energy requirements, making alkaline electrolysis more efficient and cost-effective. We are very happy to announce a new technology partnership under the European IPCEI Hy2Tech framework with Elcogen! “We are happy to join forces under the umbrella of IPCEI Hy2Tech with Elcogen. Together we will address the key challenge of industrialising SOEC –the scale-up to industrial relevant module sizes. We look forward to developing this stack module solution with Elcogen and demonstrating it in our IPCEI Hy2Tech program.” SOEC is a game-changing electrolyser technology enabling intrinsic higher efficiencies compared to Alkaline, PEM or AEM electrolysers. Moreover, when SOEC is coupled to external heat sources from industrial processes, efficiencies in the range of 90% and beyond can be achieved. This advantage makes SOEC the technology of choice in industrial hydrogen production and also in e-Fuel production, especially where the exhaust heat of the synthesis process can be used. Great news! Start of a new intensive collaboration between Elcogen and TNO in the framework of the VoltaChem program to develop next generation highly efficient Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Stacks for hydrogen production. Martijn Graaff, de, Program Director VoltaChem says: "Together with our business community, we aim for accelerated innovation and implementation of Power-2-X technologies and value chains in order to reduce the CO2 footprint of hydrogen and chemicals production. Solid Oxide Electrolysis is an important technology building block in this ambition, especially because it can be efficiently integrated in the high-temperature process industry. It’s great to see a company like Elcogen taking the next step in developing its technology towards larger scale together with VoltaChem’s initiating partner TNO."
