The Missing Link Between Strategy and Innovation Established companies know they must innovate to find growth in the digital era. So, in recent years, large companies have set up innovation labs, accelerators, hackathons, and open innovation programs to look beyond their core, pursue disruptive ideas, iterate, and experiment. Yet, most of these efforts produce little in the way of results. Corporate teams are outrun by startups. Innovation labs are shut down after failing to deliver growth at a scale that matters to the business. https://lnkd.in/gzUq6HYY

Toshiba Corporation meets digihub - Digital Innovation Hub Düsseldorf/Rheinland GmbH 🚀 Today I had the pleasure of joining Tsuyoshi Yamada, VP, Next Business Development Div. of Toshiba Corp., and Kageyuki Iso, GM of Toshiba Europe GmbH‘s Net-Zero Business Hub, on a visit to TechHub.K67 to meet with digihub CEO Peter Hornik and three startups from the digihub network in NRW that offer innovative technology solutions in the areas of predictive infrastructure maintenance, digital injection molding production and optimization of energy systems for manufacturers: EXIST project CoMMoD, OSPHIM and RIZM (formerly Kerith) 🏭🌉♻️⚡️ Peter, who is himself has become an expert on the Japanese business environment thanks to digihub's close cooperation with JETRO - Japan External Trade Organization Düsseldorf and his participation in three delegation trips from Düsseldorf to Japan, briefly introduced TechHub and digihub to Yamada-san and Iso-san and then gave the floor to Louisa Desel, Philipp Otten and Sven Wauschkuhn to present their startups and innovative solutions🎙️ During the meeting, it was impressive for me to see how Toshiba, after establishing its Regenerative Innovation Center (RIC) in Düsseldorf just one year ago, is moving at a tremendous pace to connect with relevant innovation networks, startup ecosystems, clusters, etc. to jointly develop innovations and new business models in areas such as circular economy, net zero business or regenerative technology solutions 📈 And as someone who is primarily in contact with Japanese corporates, SMEs and startups that offer innovative technological solutions for today's challenges, it was great to learn how young and highly motivated entrepreneurs from Germany are also successfully developing and implementing deep-tech solutions for various tasks (as one of the millions of people suffering from poorly maintained bridges in NRW, I would be particularly happy to see CoMMoD's predictive maintenance solution applied quickly)🦾 I keep my fingers crossed that meetings like today's will lead to more Japanese-German cooperation in the development of technological solutions and business models for a circular economy and a future net zero economy🤞 #netzero #circulareconomy #innovation #startups #toshiba #networking

TRUTH via Steve Blank - ESPECIALLY in heritage ad/media-rooted firms, which need to acknowledge their unmistakable position in "crisis/wartime" mode. (I speak/highlight from just a tad bit of experience! 😃) "Well-managed organizations realize that they need both innovation and execution." "With execution being dominant in peacetime/competitive advantage, you have managers of process. In crisis/wartime, innovation is dominant. Instead of mangers of process you need innovation leaders who shepherd ideas through an innovation pipeline. " "Successful organizations recognize that innovation isn’t a single activity (incubators, accelerators, hackathons); it is a strategically organized end-to-end process from idea to deployment." https://lnkd.in/gxnGBAvh
