🏢 Mass Timber Student Gathering Place 🍽️ Student Center & Dining Commons 🌏 Amherst College, Massachusetts   🦺 Under construction until 2026, this is a signature space on campus essential to supporting and sustaining a vibrant student experience in ways that go beyond the classroom.   "Designed by the architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron with the intention of creating a structure that quietly and effectively brings out the best in its surroundings, the new building will feature spectacular views of the Holyoke Range and the area’s distinctive topography. It will exemplify sustainable, environmentally-responsive architecture, designed to affirm the connection between the built environment and the natural world, which is integral to the Amherst experience." - Amherst College   ✅ Reflecting Amherst College's commitment to sustainability, the project repurposes the concrete structure of the former Merrill Science Center and incorporates mass-timber construction, reducing material waste and preserving embodied carbon.   ✅ The topping-out ceremony involved the signing of a final timber panel, which was then lifted and installed as the last beam.   "Reflecting Amherst College’s commitment to sustainability, the project repurposes the concrete structure of the former Merrill Science Center and incorporates mass-timber construction.
