"We're hiring a project manager for our (blank) team." When you say this to me in an interview, it sounds weird. Here's why: When hiring for a project manager role, it's important to keep in mind that projects often involve deliverables from multiple teams. To ensure that these teams work cohesively, your newly created Project Manager role should act as the connective tissue between these different teams, rather than simply serving as the taskmaster for a single team. At my last full-time role, I was initially brought on to project manage the Creative Team. However, since Creative deliverables fed directly into Marketing projects, it ultimately made sense to broaden my management scope out to include the Marketing and Brand teams as well. This ultimately made for a more streamlined experience where everyone's work was interconnected.
