💊 #Pharmaceuticals are essential for health but pose environmental risks due to their improper disposal. To address this, our new research project #DeDrugBio aims to develop biohybrid filters with laser-induced surface structures to fix microorganisms. These filters aim to selectively degrade pharmaceutical residues, offering advantages over conventional #wastewater treatment methods. 🔬 #DeDrugBio will focus on this development from May 2024. The Fraunhofer IFAM is working on this together with hanseWasser Bremen GmbH, SITEC Industrietechnologie GmbH and Wilo Group & KomS – Kompetenzzentrum Spurenstoffe BW as asscociated partners. This is a funding initiative by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany (BMBF) under the #Biologization of #Technology: #Bioinspired #Material and Material #Research programme, administratively and technically supported by the VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH. I'm proud to share the remarkable results of a recent pilot study that underscores SCHOTT Pharma's commitment to #sustainability and #innovation. In collaboration with our esteemed partners Takeda and Corplex, we have successfully demonstrated that polypropylene trays used to transport pharmaceutical vials can be recycled in a closed loop. Key findings of the study include: ➡ Polypropylene material can be reused multiple times without compromising quality ➡ The need for raw materials can be significantly reduced, helping to conserve resources ➡ Emissions per tray can be reduced by up to 50% These results demonstrate the immense potential of sustainable practices in the #pharma industry. By reducing our reliance on virgin materials and lowering emissions, we are making a positive impact on the environment while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in pharma manufacturing, ultimately protecting patient safety.
