#QUESTION #3 #ContactLabour Q. HOW LONG CAN I KEEP SOMEONE ON CONTRACT LABOUR? Our preference is to keep someone on for a minimum of three weeks, full time. In the event that you aren’t able to provide three weeks, we can consider one of our candidates who is looking for shorter term work. In our experience, providing longer term opportunities can increase candidate quality. Our 'view to permanent' options are for up to 6 months, once the 6 month point is met, the candidate is handed over to you at NO EXTRA COST. Contact me anytime for more information about our Contract Labour Hire division. (ps. ask me about our Fee for Service option as well 😁) SHARE and LIKE or even COMMENT your #questions you may have below. When I was in year 9, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and like many, I fell into the world of construction. Yesterday morning I did a Year 9 Careers morning at a school in Newcastle , and it was interesting hearing what these young people wanted life to look like after school. I spoke to 30 students, and here are the results - 18 - Football Career (Includes Coaching) 2 - Engineers 2 - Dancers 1 - Professional Golfer 1 - Musician 1 - Air Hostess 1 - Electrician 1 - Vet 1 - Midwife 1 - Police Officer 1 - Lawyer To give some context, 22 of the 30 Students were boys, and a whopping 83% of them wanted a career in Football, while a mere 10% wanted a career in construction. Now obviously this is a small sample , but It highlights in a small way that construction is still a fall back on career. I know John Cartwright has done a lot of work on this and his input here could be of interest. Maybe I’m overlooking the fact that 13 & 14 year olds are way to young to decide , or maybe , just maybe , there is still a lot of work to be done to make construction a desirable career. #careersinconstruction #STEM

Doesn't get better than this! A young man who we placed in a job has now gained his independence and moved out on his own after a challenging few years! A few months back, our agency was filling temporary positions in Penrith. I received a call from a young man eager to work, but he lacked the necessary safety equipment and didn't fully meet the job criteria. Although he had his CSCS card, he needed a hard hat and boots to start the job that was beginning in just a few days. I encouraged him: if he could acquire a hard hat and boots, I'd get him on-site the next morning. We receive many applications in recruitment, but his determination stunned us. He called back within thirty minutes, fully equipped, and began the job at 8 AM the following day. After working hard on the temporary contract, he secured a permanent spot on the team and managed to lease his first apartment after facing personal challenges for the last few years. You might wonder why I'm sharing this particular success story. In my role, I frequently come across young men with enormous potential, though things don't always pan out. This story is a testament to how the right opportunity or role, coupled with a bit of support, can truly transform a person's life for the better. #Hiring #Recruiting #Construction

New year, new career? Why not consider the skilled trades? For at least the last 20 years, I’ve been participating in new apprentice interviews for the electrical industry. Over the years, we’ve seen a shift in demographics with more female and minority candidates taking interest in the skilled trades. Another thing that’s been more prevalent the last decade or so is the influx of people “starting over”. These are typically people who have firmly established themselves in careers that either they hate or are no longer viable for a multitude of reasons. As you might expect, there are some interesting stories. Our panel will review applications, school transcripts and resumes. Occasionally we will stare at documents that just don’t seem to “fit” the job description of an electrician’s apprentice. One particular candidate presented a resume showing he was the owner of a potato chip route for almost 10 years. In addition, he had a college degree and previously worked in the retail grocery sector. After going through the usual discussion of job requirements, apprentice classes and salary (which was going to be a huge cut in pay), we finally stopped beating around the bush and asked him flat out why he was applying for entry level position after owning his own business for nearly a decade. It turned out that his potato chip route, despite being lucrative, was in a very bad neighborhood. He was recently carjacked, beaten, robbed and left tied up in the back of his truck for an extended period of time. He stated that it was no longer worth the risk and he had the means financially to make a change in his life to something that interested him. The committee all agreed he was an excellent candidate. Another candidate was a corrections officer for many years. We read her application, saw her experience and wondered why she wanted to leave a good career with seniority. “Let’s ask her”. She came in and detailed for us the dangerous conditions she experienced during COVID. A shortage of officer’s would leave her and one other male officer alone with a large number of inmates for periods of up to 24 hours at a time. She finally decided it was just too unsafe. She went on to tell us that she had actually quit her job as a CO and was working as a construction laborer for the last year. The committee all agreed she was an excellent candidate and scored her interview highly. It’s never too late to reinvent yourself and find a career that makes you love going to work each day. The skilled trades are an excellent career for those who enjoy creating things out of nothing, working with their hands and solving problems. Bring Back the Trades, Inc provides career counseling, career fairs, job & apprenticeship placement assistance as well as scholarships to those seeking to attend trade schools. #skilledtrades #careeropportunities #startingover

👀 Things aren't always what they seem...at least when it comes to applicants for a job posting on LinkedIn...don't be discouraged if you see a job posting shows a high amount of applicants. If you’ve ever seen a job posting on LinkedIn and felt discouraged by the number of applicants, don't be... the displayed number is misleading. Many of those applicants don't meet the basic requirements. I see recruiters posting about this often but here's my example: Recently posted an opening for an A&P mechanic. Right away I had seven applicants...very exciting; or so it seemed! Upon closer inspection, I found only one resume that met the job criteria. The other six applicants were automatically marked as not qualified because they didn't meet the requirements. This meant that only 14% of the applicants were actually viable candidates. This experience highlights that the number of applicants shown on LinkedIn isn’t a true reflection of the number of qualified candidates. So, if you are qualified, don’t hesitate to apply, even if it seems like there’s a lot of competition. Your qualifications could very well set you apart from the crowd! #JobSearchTips #LinkedInJobs #AviationCareers #JobMarketInsights #CareerAdvice #PilotJobs #AviationCommunity
