Research by Oxford Analytica indicates that: "Controlling livestock disease in all contexts has multiplier benefits for economic, environmental and social sustainability. This includes reductions in emissions, hunger, malnutrition, and poverty in line with the targets established by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.” This is what MACSO focuses on. We use AI and sensors for early disease detection in animals to reduce their death rate, reduce antibiotic consumption and prevent major economic and health impacts due to disease outbreaks. Awareness of MSO is on the increase! "DO you know what your farm's Maximum Sustainable Output is - and how it might help you work smarter rather than harder? Is your farm's 'business balance' right? Should you be keeping more livestock and growing less arable, or vice versa? Or have you ended up on a treadmill of increasing inputs but flatlining profitability?" 👏 Brilliant article Chris Clark, Nethergill Associates about MSO (Maximum Sustainable Output) - the completely common-sense systemic and mindset change needed that you described so well to farmers at our Farming in a Changing Climate Conference in October. 🐄 🌱 Rural Design Centre Northumberland County Council 🐏 🌲 👉 'Farms have found that as they have moved towards their MSO... there is a balance of energy, business and nature...' 👍 One of the more challenging aspects is ... that in some cases profitability improves from doing less... "it is a little bit foreign." 👌 ...aiming for MSO is a change of mindset and much more forward-looking... smarter rather than harder.

“A shared prospect for farming and food in Europe” – the final report of the #StrategicDialogue on the future of EU Agriculture was handed to the President of the European Commission today 📑 At the core of this report, I can recognise the cooperation between actors across the whole agrifood chain (which I imagine was not always easy) as well as the will to find joint solutions for future-oriented #EUFarming 🤝 Cross-sectoral cooperation and developing forward thinking solutions are at the heart of our work at EPICO KlimaInnovation, and we look forward to planting seeds for a more sustainable agrifood system as we expand into agricultural topics 🌱🍴

The final report of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture, titled “A Shared Prospect for Farming and Food in Europe,” was submitted to the European Commission by the group's chair, Professor Peter Strohschneider. This report provides an assessment of the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, along with a series of recommendations. Biodiversity is mentioned here 58 times and I will need to find some time to look properly into this strategic document. #Agriculture #Biodiversity #EuropeanUnion

Far more bird flu damage is inevitable, but the extent of it will be left to the Trump administration and Mother Nature. Already, the USDA has funneled more than $1.7 billion into tamping down the bird flu on poultry farms since 2022, which includes reimbursing farmers who’ve had to cull their flocks, and more than $430 million into combating the bird flu on dairy farms. In coming years, the bird flu may cost billions of dollars more in expenses and losses. Dairy industry experts say the virus kills roughly 2% to 5% of infected dairy cows and reduces a herd’s milk production by about 20%. #Bird #flu #damage #is #inevitable #will #be #up #to #Trump #administration #to #take #action

Defra’s first estimates of Total Income From Farming (TIFF) in England in 2023 show a 19% fall from the record high in 2022, when values were inflated by a rapid rise in energy costs following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But the latest figure is above the five-year average. Defra has published a TIFF figure of £4.5 billion for calendar 2023. #Defra #TotalIncomeFromFarming(TIFF)
