Hi, here's a quick catch-up on our latest activities: ✍ The Colosseum Archaeological Park in Rome launched an interactive quiz that we wrote together using MuseumPal, the prototype of AI branching story creator that we are developing ⛪︎ Our VR film on the Council of Trento is out there! It can be seen, unsurprisingly, in a church in Trento ⛰ Our VR game "GEOdi - From the museum to the mountain top" is on view at two venues of the MUSE Science Museum, Trento stories+churches+mountains, how old-school is that?

How can technology help us preserve our past? I and Zohair Al-Ameen explored this question at the Symposium on Integrating Technology with Heritage at the University of Mosul. We focused on the use of virtual reality for cultural heritage preservation. We discussed the potential of VR to revitalize archaeological sites and enhance historical understanding. #VR #CulturalHeritage #DigitalHeritage #UniversityofMosul #Technology #Heritage

For years our directors have been working in the background to establish what would be the most beneficial global metaverse for culture, travel and tourism. In the post below Olesya Khokhoulia relates a conversation with our XR director David W. Sime on how 3D modelling, digital twinning and Virtual Reality could be used to digitally capture, preserve and provide global access to cultural artifacts that could be at risk from war, natural disaster and rising sea levels. Although SITE Network is garnering massive attention from the global tourism industry for its clear economic benefits (VR "Try Before you Fly" increasing physical visit levels by up to 33%) and accessibility for people with sensory, mobility and neurodiversity issues, it's important to remember that another of our foundational missions is to help protect the cultures and destinations that attract us to these locations in the first place. To learn more about what SITE Network and our partners at Parallel Worlds, Inc. are doing to create Social, Interactive Twin Environments, join our vibrant community by following the link in the comments below #culturalpreservation #virtualreality #tourism
Recently, I visited Nuraghes at Sardinia, the Tombs of Giants, as they are called locally. It is an interesting place with magic energy. There is a museum located near one of the Nuraghes. It’s a very small exhibition, mostly supported by the local community. BUT! They are using modern VR technology to put you in the world of the real Nuraghes, showing how they looked ages ago. I had a small talk with the director of the museum, and she said a phrase that resonated a lot with me: “We came out of the don’t touch anything era, to touch everything era, and VR helped us. “ I remember our conversation with David W. Sime a few years ago when he predicted that. Now it's happening, and it’s very inspiring! It’s a prequel to the new enterprise story, which I missed publishing today. But it will come. 😊

In 2017, we all witnessed the devastation of Mosul’s heritage with our own eyes. 𝑼𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅. At #QAFLab, we stepped up to the challenge, using cutting-edge technology to preserve and restore cultural history through photogrammetry and virtual reality. Not only that but leveraging different resources and the diverse expertise we have to tell our story to the world through our media production, and our virtual Museum at Mosul Heritage Foundation, where we have developed VR/AR experiences that enable virtual tours inside the heritage buildings we document. This promo not only tells the story of resilience and cultural revival, but it also shows how efforts from various disciplines are essential, and how crucial their intersection is in tackling crises. #culturalpreservation #culturalheritage #urgentresponse #technology

Transforming Shared Experiences of Infant Loss to Empowered Healing Spaces Through Virtual Reality: If you are interested in history, religious conformism, and loss, then this fascinating talk, by the artist filmmaking Joe Duffy, explores burial practices in rural Ireland, where children were buried in what were described as Cillinís. Check out the talk Joe gave us last year, via the link below. Genuinely both fascinating and harrowing. Thanks again Joe! #vr #immersive #heritage #history #history

🏛Making large-scale heritage sites accessible through #digital technology is still a major challenge today. 📄 In this paper, authors take on the quest to explore the usage of large-scale digitization of the Palace of Knossos, a well-known #heritage site that receives more than 800,000 visitors per year. https://lnkd.in/e7HqaTx9 📱 💻 The aim is to create a unique #virtual visiting experience that can be accessed offline in VR and AR and on-site when visiting the archaeological site. Apart from the technological success of this endeavor, authors are contributing to the sustainability of the heritage site, which is already under extreme pressure due to over-tourism.
