"At Mr Eddie Low’s routine medical check-up in 2017, the doctor found something suspicious in his liver and one of his lungs. Further tests showed he had liver cancer and lung cancer. They were both primary cancers, meaning cancer did not spread from one organ to the other. A year later, Mr Low found out he had primary cancer in his prostate. Before Mr Low found out about his three primary cancers, he had no symptoms. “I didn’t feel like something was wrong. If I didn’t go for a medical screening, I would have probably found out much later." Most lung cancer cases, Dr. Patricia Kho (medical director of Icon Cancer Centre - Singapore at Mount Alvernia Hospital) says, are still being diagnosed at an advanced stage. About 61.5 per cent of men and 60.9 per cent of women who were diagnosed between 2018 and 2021 discovered their condition only at stage four. When lung cancer is detected early – such as in stage one, when the cancer has not spread – treatment can be effective. The five-year survival rate for stage one lung cancer patients can be as high as 92 per cent. But the five-year survival rate for stage four lung cancer patients is significantly lower at 10 per cent, she says." https://lnkd.in/gNJv8Gwm
