It’s stress awareness month and as part of that there are things we can all do to aid our own wellbeing. One of the 5 ways to wellbeing is to give. There’s lots of research about the positive effects of taking part in social and community life with some studies showing that people who help others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Below is a great opportunity with a local charity close to my heart Motiv8 to do just that, whilst improving our community 😊I’m looking forward to taking part! So what ways do you give back? Is there anything you can do today to be kind and helpful to others, however big or small? #wellbeing #stressawarenessmonth
Fancy a different kind of team-bonding that doesn’t involve drinking or an escape room AND helps the environment? 🌊 Led by Motiv8 Youth Advisor Mackenzie Bird, join us and our partners from across the city for a beach clean ahead of the D-Day 80 celebration. This event will be led by young people from across our community, endorsed by the Portsmouth & Southsea Beach Watch, our team of young people, staff, and volunteers. We’l make our way from the Hot walls in Old Portsmouth and Eastney Beach, finishing at the D-Day Museum, helping to prepare the city for this national event of remembrance and celebration. We are inviting you and your colleagues to join us as volunteers, if you are able, both to help clean and help the young people we all support demonstrate pride in their home. Any direct or financial support around equipment, refreshments, or event logistics is also most welcome! 🗓️ Saturday 1st June, 10am at Hot Walls, Old Portsmouth. Partners already confirmed are Sustrans, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Police Cadets, Air Cadets, Portsmouth Mediation Service, The Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth, The D-Day Story Museum, PYC, URBOND, Film Crew 4u CIC, and Habibur Rahman / The News, Portsmouth. Could our next partner be you?! Email fundraising@motiv8south.org.uk to get involved! #beachclean #southseabeachclean #lifechancesforyoungpeople

Here's the link to the Rosalie Edge story:
In case you missed it in our newsletter, here's the epic story of Rosalie Edge, a woman The New Yorker called "the only honest, unselfish, indomitable hellcat in the history of conservation.” You may have never heard of Edge, her contributions to conservation in Yellowstone, and her nonprofit Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association. Now you have, courtesy of this excellent historical feature story by MoJo contributor John Clayton. Read the piece here: https://lnkd.in/g5b3vXez

The ceremonial groundbreaking for "The Tun," a re-creation of the historic Tun Tavern, was held in Philadelphia, celebrating its significance as the birthplace of the Marine Corps. This project, led by The Tun Legacy Foundation and Marine Corps veteran Patrick Dailey, aims to honor the tavern's storied past while recognizing its connections to multiple organizations like the Freemasons and the Society of St. George. The new tavern will serve not only as a tribute to Marines but to all groups historically tied to the original site. The design includes plans for a microbrewery and a colonial-style warehouse, dubbed Peg Mullan’s Beefsteak Club, reflecting the tavern's rich heritage. Although the target opening date is set for November 10, 2025—aligning with the Marine Corps' 250th birthday—financial challenges could potentially delay the project. The foundation has already secured two significant donations of $1 million each but will need more support to ensure timely completion. This initiative is more than just a building project; it aims to create a community hub that supports veterans and educational organizations by donating all proceeds once operational. Patrick Dailey emphasizes that this is a community effort, highlighting the collaborative spirit that drives the project and its goal to restore a beloved piece of Philadelphia's history. #MarineCorps #TunTavern #Philadelphia #HistoricPreservation #CommunityImpact #Veterans #BuildingHistory #Nonprofit #MarineCorpsHistory If you found this post insightful, sparked a new idea, or presented valuable advice, please select 💡!
