Lit Thinking’s Post

Meet Dr. Janet Price, PhD, Chief Science Officer at Lit Thinking. Dr. Price is shedding light on a critical public #health conversation—how Far-UVC can play a vital role against #measles outbreaks. Measles is highly contagious, and while #vaccines are an essential defense, they’re not a perfect solution for everyone. Some people don’t sustain immunity, and others can’t receive the vaccine due to health conditions. That’s why layered protection is key—and Far-UVC is a proven #technology that can help. In 1941, researchers demonstrated that UVC light could significantly reduce measles transmission in #schools. Today, with advanced solutions like #Visium Far-UVC, we have the opportunity to apply this technology more effectively than ever before. As measles cases rise, it’s time to think beyond traditional strategies and embrace proven, science-backed solutions to keep our shared spaces cleaner. Far-UVC: A Critical Layered Defense Against the Measles Virus We already possess a valuable tool in our public health arsenal that can be deployed widely to inactivate the Measles Virus. In 1941, Dr. William F. Wells demonstrated that UVC light, when used to treat the air, significantly reduced the risk and incidence of Measles outbreaks in schools in Philadelphia, PA. Public health strategies rely on layered defenses—multiple measures working together to mitigate the risk of infection. Hygiene, isolation, and vaccination are all crucial in reducing this risk, but no single approach is foolproof. Vaccination, while effective, does not provide immunity for everyone—some individuals may not sustain the necessary antibody levels, while others may be immunocompromised and unable to receive the vaccine. As recent outbreaks remind us of the ongoing threat of Measles, it is crucial that we take meaningful action to improve infrastructure and reduce gaps in protections, ensuring that our shared spaces are safer for all. Visium Far-UVC and other UVC devices provide an additional, proven layer of defense that can complement these existing strategies.
