One might own the world but what you do with it, makes all the difference. As a medical student, it is not just about course completion and finances but the debt that might occur to achieve the dream that bothers many. The students of Albert Einstein College of Medicine are fortunate to be blessed with the generosity of Dr. Ruth Gottesman. The former professor of the college has donated $1 Billion which is to be used to cover tuition fees of all the students going forward. Her generosity brought tears of joy to the students and parents. And it has touched so many more lives. 1. This donation would attract a diverse and talented pool of students who might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue a medical degree. 2. The Bronx, where the college is located, needs more compassionate and knowledgeable healthcare professionals as it is one of the poorest towns. It has a high rate of premature deaths and illnesses. Hence, this act will make a significant difference in uplifting not just Bronx but its future children. 3. This act will have a long-term impact on the students and the generosity would be passed around in unseen ways. Children are natural storytellers, creative designers, panelists, analysts, and strategists. They possess the potential to excel in every field you can imagine—they only need our "presence" and "push" to thrive. As we celebrate #InternationalDayOfEducation, I can’t help but reflect on the pressing need to bridge the wide gap between access to #qualityeducation and the millions of children still out of school. How do we close this divide? While conversations increasingly focus on #AI and its role in education, some children around the world have never even seen a laptop, let alone had the chance to use one. Some still rely on models to learn basic concepts about technology. As educators, we are entrusted with the responsibility of designing engaging classrooms and fostering learning in #innovative ways. We plan our lessons with steps and procedures to anticipate our learners’ reactions and responses, but those traditional methods are gradually fading away. Earlier this week, a class had an activity centered on "Learning about the UK." Students were free to choose their topics and decide whether to work in pairs or independently. It was a #DemocraticLearning experience that empowered them to take ownership of their education. The results were extraordinary. The students designed slides, added colorful visuals, shared fun facts, and cited their sources. Together, we explored the best universities in the UK, experienced a full English breakfast, enjoyed an Irish dance, and navigated the London underground stations—all through their eyes and efforts. What stood out to me was how seamless and independent the process was. Students took charge of their learning, presenting confidently while their peers asked questions, provided feedback, and celebrated one other's work. There was no need to manage behavior, direct the flow of the lesson, or assist with technology—everything ran smoothly. This experience reminds me of the immense potential within students when given the opportunity. Yet, amidst these,, I am reminded of the stark reality: while some children are flourishing in this new era of media and education, others are left behind, unable to access basic tools for learning. How do we address this glaring disparity? As we move forward, we must strive to create #inclusive educational systems that embrace innovation while ensuring no child is left behind. The future of education lies not just in technological advancements, but in ensuring #equitable access to these opportunities for every child, everywhere. It’s a challenge, but one worth taking on—for their sake, and for the future of the world. #Education4All #AiandEducation #QualityEducation4All
