Sage perspective from our venture team: The explosive growth of #AI draws parallels with the dotcom bubble, and one key lesson from that period is the fallacy of the first-mover advantage. Not all of the early AI winners will be able to convert today’s initial hype and success into long-term dominance, similar to the varied outcomes of the first internet companies. The challenge for investors will be identifying the durable companies with scalable competitive advantages, such as Amazon, and the nondurable companies with flashy early success, like CMGI. This variability is essential to understanding the current and future state of AI venture investments. More here: https://lnkd.in/g3jhhj98

A lot of noise around DeepSeek’s AI model right now, but what really interests me isn’t just the model itself—it’s what this shift means for startups, innovation, and the balance of power in tech. Right now, if you're building a startup and want to integrate powerful AI, you’re pretty much stuck with the big players (OpenAI, Google, etc.). They have incredible tech, but access isn’t cheap, and cost alone can kill ambitious ideas before they even get off the ground. If this kind of competition drives more affordable, scalable AI options, it could unlock so much potential for tech startups that just can’t afford to build with what’s currently available. More reach, more impact, more people actually getting to build the cool things they envision. Then there’s the fact that people are freaking out. Markets reacting, stocks dropping, hot takes everywhere. But honestly, isn’t this exactly what should be happening? More competition means faster innovation. It keeps the AI giants from getting too comfortable and pushes them to keep advancing instead of just maintaining dominance. And finally there’s the global angle. AI has been heavily US-dominated so far, and now a Chinese company has made a big move. Some people seem nervous about that, but spreading out power is a good thing. The more distributed AI leadership becomes, the less concentrated control there is, and the more opportunities arise for different kinds of advancements. So yeah, DeepSeek is cool, but what’s even cooler is what this could mean for everyone else trying to build. Would love to hear from other founders—do you see this as an opportunity? #TechStartups #AI #DeepSeek #Innovation #Competition #Scalability

Proud to share that Scale AI has raised $1B in Series F financing, at a $13.8B valuation, led by Accel. AI is built from three fundamental pillars: data, compute, and algorithms. Scale supplies the data pillar that advances AI by fueling its entire development lifecycle. We supply data to power nearly every leading AI model on the market today, and we're excited to provide that to the national security community too. As Alexandr Wang, Scale's founder and CEO, has said: “The race for AI global leadership is well underway, and our nation’s ability to efficiently adopt and implement AI will define the future of warfare. I firmly believe that the United States has the ability to lead the world in AI adoption to support U.S. national security. The world is not slowing down, and we must rise to the occasion.” With today’s funding, we’re moving into the next phase of that journey. https://lnkd.in/eKJFBPj2
