Back home after an intense tcworld conference in Stuttgart. In the excellent company of the Yamagata Europe team, I had fun at the trade fair, attended presentations and product demos, and, above all, reconnected with some of my best localization friends. No comprehensive analysis of the conference this time — still a lot of information and insights to digest. Instead, some key takeaways and a newly published piece on two of the most prominent topics in the current language technology landscape: 🤖 AI (what else) & 🔗 connectivity. Here we go: 🔹 Our industry has a long history of disruption, but the true impact of technology has often been moderate at best. This time, I'm convinced that LLMs have the potential to revolutionize many facets of the content lifecycle and that, despite the abundance of useless AI features and services, we've only begun to explore how LLMs can transform content generation, management, localization, quality assurance, and delivery. Big change comes with big responsibility — and fortunately, our industry has many knowledgeable individuals (you know who you are) who will ensure we'll adopt and implement AI responsibly and for all the right purposes. 🔹 Together with Istvan Lengyel and Laszlo K Varga, I had the honor of co-authoring an article on TMS, connectivity, and orchestration. As #GALA2024 in Valencia is starting today, I'd like to share a great #localization experience I had last Thursday and Friday. Thanks to Custom.MT, Konstantin Dranch, Dominik Wever and the amazing team of moderators, we had the opportunity to participate in a Prompt Workshop dedicated to the Localization industry. We learnt about RAG, Chain of thought prompting, variables, screenshot recognition and other use cases applied to the Localization industry using Promptitude (amazing tool by the way!). We've seen many use cases for translators or content producers. I expect more progress for project management as, so far, management tools are already integrating AI and facilitating PM work. While tools like Bureau Works and Blackbird.io are already in advance compared to others, traditional BMS and TMS will need to integrate GenAI in their features if they want to keep up with the LSP and Localization teams needs. As our jobs are deeply shifting, I can only recommend #translators, project managers and everyone working in this field to keep up with new technologies or at least be curious about it. As seen during the workshop, they can be very helpful and are not here to replace Humans (Humans must be in the loop as the machine is not perfect, which is why we will always be needed).
