Visionaries, I want to talk to you about a common trap... and how to break free. Imagine this: you and your Integrator agree to explore new marketing channels. Part of the plan is for your Marketing Director to research a few options and present their recommendation. Then, a week later, you casually pop into the Marketing Director's office and say, "Hey, I’ve been thinking... what about running commercials on Hulu?" Then you leave. Your Marketing Director is now stuck. Do they stick to the original plan or chase your new idea? This is what we call an End Run, and it’s a habit that can undo all the progress you’ve made by bringing in an Integrator. If you keep bypassing your Integrator, you’re undermining their authority and effectiveness. Here’s how to fix it: adopt "The Question." When someone skips the Integrator and comes to you with feedback or requests, do this: 1️⃣ Listen fully. 2️⃣ Then ask: "Okay, I’ve heard you. Now, are you going to tell our Integrator, or should I? Because one of us needs to." That’s it. This simple question redirects the conversation to the right channel. Most organizations see End Runs disappear in about 30 days when this becomes the standard response. Remember: this doesn’t mean you stop listening or brainstorming. Those are great! But when it comes to giving direction, that’s your Integrator’s job. Trust them to handle it—it’s what they’re there for. Vimeo made quite the splash earlier this month, becoming the largest company I've seen to re-position itself as a "business video" vendor. Eager to head to NYC next week for the company's one-day Reframe end-user conference on October 23 to hear about how Vimeo's products are being aligned to address the growing demand for video in business applications. Given Vimeo's heritage, I would expect a lot of the discussion will be focused on business marketing applications of video. But the conference agenda has some nods to "employee engagement," suggesting some tools are coming that are optimized for use behind the corporate firewall.
