Imagine a friend who has a high-end audio and video studio telling you, “Sure, come on over and use it.” That’s the premise behind Kit Studios, which opened their Chicago location last night (Boise opened last June, NYC in the works). It was a fun evening to check out the impressive studios — 3-camera setups, huge monitors, premiere audio, comfy and professional sets (complete with Chicago-themed decor). The studios are free to use for all Kit creators on their Creator or Creator Pro plans. The high ceilings in the industrial building on Chicago’s Goose Island create an airy space. Kit CEO Nathan Barry said they learned some things from setting up their original Boise space — like all cameras and lighting are hung from the ceiling, so no tripods to trip over. The setups immediately inspire the imagination about possibilities. Podcasts? Remote hosting? Filming courses? Joint projects when colleagues visit Chicago? Plus, an IRL gathering of online friends is always a treat. Great to see Caleb Dempsey, Katie Fawkes, Doc Rock, Lisa Weiss. Congrats to Nathan, Haley Janicek and the rest of the Kit team for putting on a fun event, and bringing this creative resource to Chicago. Can’t wait to see what comes out of these studios!
