Czechia 🇨🇿: On New Year's Eve afternoon, RTI cz announced the launch of the first nationwide network for digital broadcasting of commercial radio in the DAB+ standard in the Czech Republic. According to Office Manager Andrea Jančová, the operator put nine new multiplex C transmitters into operation during the day and achieved coverage of 69.26 percent of the Czech population. "In total, RTI cz has launched 23 transmitters, and in the first months of the new year it will boost coverage from the transmitters in Prague - City Tower, Benešov - Kochánov and Mariánské Lázně - Dyleň," said Jančová. #DAB #digitalradio #DABplus https://lnkd.in/dEhH8pG5

Italy 🇮🇹: the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit) has announced the launch of a comparative selection process for awarding DAB+ usage rights in Veneto, Tuscany, Lazio, Campania and Puglia. The official tender notices will be published on Mimit’s website under the Digital — Radio and Television section on 5 February 2025. DVB-i moves to next phase in Italy I'm closely following the DVB Project, and its developments, and it's been incredible to witness the progress. I heard early last year that this would be functional in 5 years time, but even last year at IBC I was pleasantly surprised at the progress that had been made. "Italian public broadcaster Rai - Radiotelevisione Italiana has brought forward the launch date for the first multiplex to broadcast in DVB-T2, targeting August 28th. Specific channels haven’t been finalised, but are likely to include flagships Rai 1 HD, Rai 2 HD, and Rai 3 HD in simulcast. This aims to improve reception in areas struggling with the current DVB-T." The Italians will make a test switch in late May to test the equipment functionality. There are lots of #television sets that are not yet capable of receiving the DVB-T standard, so it may be that new TVs sets are needed. Luxembourg 🇱🇺: Big steps towards DAB. Following the call for applications for the licence to operate DAB+ broadcasting and to set up and manage a 1st multiplex from 19 August 2024, the Minister responsible for Radiocommunications and Radio Spectrum Management has selected Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) as the successful applicant. The Service des médias, de la connectivité et de la politique numérique (SMC) is currently finalising, with the Autorité luxembourgeoise de l'audiovisuel (ALIA), the public call for applications for the granting of licences for sound radio services to be broadcast on this mux. The Ministry Of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has referred the Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting proposal to a committee of secretaries, including representatives from key departments. D2M technology will enable users to receive multimedia content on mobile devices without internet access, targeting primarily tier II and III cities. While Prasar Bharati is testing D2M in 19 cities, telecom companies have raised concerns about potential losses in video consumption. TRAI supports D2M as a viable alternative for expanding digital broadcasting. #MIB #ministryleaders #broadcasting

The Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF) has strongly opposed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) 's consultation paper on the Framework for Service Authorizations for Broadcasting Services under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. The broadcasters’ association has urged TRAI to limit its recommendations strictly to carriage-related aspects of broadcasting that fall within its statutory authority.
