GoPuff are now delivering directly from Morrisons' supermarkets in Camden, Newcastle, and now Watford. They’re effectively utilising Morrisons store floors to pack and dispatch orders, thus sidestepping extra overheads. In Camden, GoPuff even runs dual operations: Morrisons by day (7:30am–9:30pm) and a separate micro-fulfilment centre by night with different products. Is it revolutionary or simply “reinventing the wheel”? it does allow growth while limiting property costs. But GoPuff is essentially competing with Morrisons using Morrisons’ own products, under the same roof! Is it actually a clever way to expand in areas and service whole cities the most efficiently? Is GoPuffs UK contingency plan to rollout nationwide inside Morrisons in order to survive? (Disclaimer: All the above info is easily verifiable on the GoPuff app.)

Deliveroo Will Stay on Food Delivery’s Deals Menu Takeover discussions between US-based DoorDash and UK’s Deliveroo highlight the continued trend of consolidation in the food delivery sector. With Deliveroo, Delivery Hero, and Just Eat Takeaway.com all turning EBITDA-positive for the first time in 2023, the focus has shifted to mergers and acquisitions. So apparantly DoorDash approached Deliveroo with a takeover offer. I have questions.... given the geographical reach of Deliveroo vs DoorDash's (even with Wolt's eastern European footprint factored in), wouldn't this be more like a merger? I suspect Will Shu and the team have enough confidence in their own capability right now to not be interested in an offer unless the price was extremely bullish. I also suspect that DoorDash does not have the funds to make a significant cash + shares offer. DoorDash market cap is a larger number of multiples of sales, whereas Deliveroo is much smaller with heavy reinvestment of cash into growth.
