We are thrilled to hear that Portugal will officially include Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) in its neonatal screening policies starting today. This significant advancement reflects our ongoing commitment to improving early detection and treatment of Immunodeficiencies. By advocating for this inclusion, we are one step closer to ensuring that affected infants receive timely interventions, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and health outcomes. We look forward to collaborating with healthcare providers and families to support this vital initiative and continue our mission in the fight against Immunodeficiencies side by side with patients’ associations and the medical community. A special thank you to all advocates who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. IPOPI - International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies, GPIP (Grupo Médico Português de Imunodeficiências Primárias), APDIP - Associação Portuguesa de Doentes com Imunodeficiências Primárias, Ricardo Pereira, Joana Silvério Marques. We are also grateful to Susana Viana for her support in the campaign. #SCID #NeonatalScreening #Immunodeficiencies #HealthcareInnovation #Portugal #EarlyDetection
A big step forward for neonatal health in Portugal and a great example of how important campaigns and public health initiatives can save lives. I look forward to continuing to support and contribute, alongside everyone involved, to improve health outcomes for those affected by immunodeficiencies.

5dKudos Portugal!! Every country take note. It is so important from a public policy standpoint to disgnose PID and SCID early enough, so the children don’t go through life struggling with repeated infections and hospitalizations that keeps them away from enjoying their childhood.
