Many of you will be hiring someone in the next 6 months. Hopefully it's because your company is growing and thriving and not because you're NOT a great company to work for. 😬 In order to be ready for this process I recommend a few things, not to make it perfect... but to make it effective. Be a company that a great candidate wants to work at! (A-players are probably already working somewhere). This sounds so simple, but it's all about your culture! What are your current team members saying/doing? How are you perceived? Have great ways to reward your team! (Accountability is important)! There are a lot of temptations in corporate america. Cutting corners because "No one will know" Slandering others to advance one's career because if the other person is bad, you must be better. Right? Misrepresenting data to fit one's own agenda. And so on. There are many clowns who play these games. And if you do as well, you will end up in the sewer with them. Suffice it to say, it never ends well. So if you find these scary clowns on your team, as a leader you need to get rid of them. Otherwise, you will eventually find yourself with a team full of scary clowns because all the good talent will leave. Anyone an NBA fan? Better, a Lakers fan? (Bring on the hate, I can handle it) Was just listening to one of the interviews with JJ Reddick (TL;DR, he's the new coach of the Lakers, first-time coach, lots of pressure - yada yada yada) Dude is an incredible communicator. But his coaching ability is completely unknown, so (fair enough) he is constantly asked about the staff he's going to bring along with him. He explained that he is going to need a mix... ➡️ On the front of bench we need some steady, experienced minds. People who have been there before, done it, have proven not to be overwhelmed with the pressure of the moment. Ex-head coaches. 🔙 And on the back of bench we need some fresh, ambitious, innovative minds. People who are willing to try something new, and balance out the old-minds who might lean into what's worked before. Brand new to the role. It's all a balance. That's what makes an awesome team.
