I Had The Privilege Of Attending LTC Jason Waidzulius’ Promotion Ceremony(Once Again Sir, Congrats! What A Team Win For You, Your Family, And Friends), Where I had The Opportunity To Reconnect With My Former Brigade Commander, COL Chung. Reflecting On My Time Under His Leadership, I Have Carried Forward The Below Invaluable Lessons: 1. Extreme Ownership: Take Full Responsibility And Accountability For You And Your Team’s Actions. 2. Shared Hardship: Always Seek Opportunities To Endure Challenges With The Team—Strong Bonds Are Forged Through Hardships/ Challenges. 3. Think Big To Small: Envision The End Goal/ End State And Systematically Think/Work Backwards In A Deliberate Manner.

In 1862, Robert Smalls, a brave and resourceful enslaved man, made history when he stole a Confederate ship and sailed it to freedom, not only securing his own liberty but also that of his crew and their families. Here’s how he did it. 1/ Early Life: Born into slavery in 1839 in South Carolina, Robert Smalls was no stranger to hardship. While working on ships, he learned valuable skills in navigation, skills that would eventually make him a hero. 2/ The Planter: Smalls worked as a deckhand on the Planter, a Confederate supply vessel. This ship, which was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, would become the vessel of his daring escape. 3/ The Daring Escape: On May 13, 1862, with Confederate officers away, Smalls seized the opportunity. Disguised as the captain, he sailed the Planter out of the Confederate-controlled Charleston harbor. 4/ Passing Checkpoints: Smalls faced a high-stakes challenge—he had to pass multiple Confederate checkpoints. By hoisting the Confederate flag, he was able to deceive Confederate forces and avoid suspicion. 5/ Reaching Freedom: Smalls steered the ship past enemy lines and into Union-controlled waters, where he and his crew were freed. His actions provided crucial military intelligence and supplies to the Union. 6/ Legacy: Robert Smalls' escape was not only a personal triumph but also a symbol of resistance and resilience. Later, Smalls served as a U.S. Congressman, advocating for the rights of Black Americans. 7/ Conclusion: Robert Smalls’ audacity and courage in the face of danger remind us of the power of individual action in the fight for freedom. Seeing Michael J. Fox awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom really touch my heart, his one of my favourite actor during my teenager days with his Back to the Future movie , Well with my background in wellness & wellbeing industries for me this issue frequently stuck in my mind if near in the future that one of my family member or relatives got this diseases. What can I contribute and I can’t help but to think about what more we could be doing. As Malaysian , I believe we got a good healthcare system that provide to our fellow communities. For the bigger nation as the USA this really a step to that goals in educate & to reaching out to the masses. They made progress, sure—but is it enough? Millions of people, are still waiting for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Michael’s determination to change the future for people with Parkinson’s is so inspiring and makes me ask myself: what more can we do as an industry? How do we move faster, collaborate better, and truly make a difference in Parkinson’s (and other diseases)? Is how we work as an industry good enough? Are we asking the right questions or truly understanding what needs to be done? This year marks ten years since transitioning from military service. Military life is full of lessons that apply far beyond the uniform: the value of teamwork, the importance of integrity, and the reminder that no mission succeeds without the people who make it possible. One of the biggest takeaways is that success in any endeavor depends on others. In service, it’s the team around you—people who step up, even when the stakes are high, and who bring their best every day. In life, it’s family, friends, and mentors who support and challenge us. The lesson is clear: no one gets through anything alone, and it’s important to value those who make the journey with you. Military service also reinforces the idea that leadership isn’t only about titles or rank, but about actions. Whether leading a team or supporting one, what matters most is doing your part and trusting others to do theirs. That trust creates results, and it builds relationships that last far beyond the mission. Finally, there’s the principle of service itself: giving back to something larger than oneself. Whether serving in the military, a local community, or just supporting others where they are, contributing in meaningful ways strengthens not just those around us, but ourselves as well. Since retiring, I’ve focused on giving back. Being part of Honor Flight Rochester (HFR) has been a privilege, making sure veterans see the recognition they earned, even if it comes decades later. HFR is about honoring service, connecting generations, and reminding people what sacrifice looks like. Looking ahead, the mission hasn’t changed much.
