It’s always such a pleasure to share the amazing insights coming out of the research group—this time 4 findings on infrastructure: 💳 Leora Klapper reviews global evidence on digital wage payments. Her review, along with her research with Emily Breza and Martin Kanz shows how they can expand financial access for low-income workers and reduce costs for firms—when supported by strong digital infrastructure and sound regulation. 🚌 Tatjana Kleineberg, Sally Murray, Yulu Tang, and Jon Kher K. examine recent investments in Amman’s bus rapid transit system, projected to cut commuting times by up to 26% and boost sectoral output by 4–8%. 🔌 Harris Selod, Jevgenijs Steinbuks, Ian Trotter, and Brian Blankespoor, GISP analyze four decades of data and show that combining access to electricity and highways yields much greater economic gains than investing in either alone. 🚄 Hiau Looi Kee, Enze Xie, and Mingzhi Xu show how the expansion of high-speed rails not only transforms mobility, but it can also deepen domestic supply chains and increase the share of domestic value in exports.
