Searching for federal grants is a pain. 1. grants.gov is--um--not great 2. Some federal agencies still list additional grant opportunities on their website. 3. Even if you do find something, you have to read and re-read the opportunity and program information to make sure you qualify and it's worth your time. Yesterday we presented this governing documents scenario: An organization’s records were destroyed by fire. The group wanted to change the name of the organization and prepare a new set of bylaws. According to RONR (12th ed) Are they bound by the old bylaws even though no copy is available? Answer: Yes, they are bound by the old bylaws until a new version is adopted. Bylaws continue in effect until they are amended or revised. RONR (12th ed) 56:2. It is best to revise the bylaws and present it to the membership for adoption. RONR (12th ed) 2:5, 56:2 If the organization is incorporated, they can refer to the the articles of incorporation for basic information, like the organization’s name and other provisions that may be contained in the document. This information will aid in drafting a revision of the bylaws. RONR (12th edition) 2:7, 2:8(2) .

I always advise clients to leave as much time as possible to prepare their application - and if you're planning to apply for a substantial grant, it's crucial that you do this. But why is it necessary to avoid a last minute rush?
