Hy and Christopher address the recent clearances of pro-Palestinian protesters at Tulane and Columbia universities— and cite the uncanny comparisons to the 1968 Presidential race. Will the upcoming Democratic convention in Chicago have a similar effect as it did 56 years ago? We also talk about how the new NOPD headquarters will now cost over $12 million in rent! Hy and Christopher wonder if it would've been easier and cheaper just to buy the skyscraper at 1615 Poydras as the new City Hall office building. We conclude our discussion speculating whether the new City of St. George in East Baton Rouge Parish will spawn a trend of neighborhoods becoming towns in the New Orleans area. It only takes 5000 people to form a township under the Louisiana state constitution and there’s already a move to form a City of Lakeview in Orleans Parish. Will we see restored cities of Carrollton and Algiers? (After all, Algiers remained a city in Orleans until 1959.) Finally, Hy talks about the St. George himself!

Van Jones perfectly and succinctly summed up what so many have struggled to put into words: You protest a policy, you don’t protest a people. Can you take issue with Israeli politics? Absolutely. Peacefully make your opinion heard by writing an op-ed, contacting legislators, or engaging in respectful civil discourse. That’s how democracy works. Calling for the genocide of an entire people, vandalizing synagogues, verbally and physically assaulting people because they are Jewish, creating an unsafe atmosphere for Jewish students on college campuses? That is not democracy. It’s antisemitism, and it’s dangerous not only for Jews, but for our country and all of humanity. https://lnkd.in/eKW9rnZZ

Other jurisdictions can try but those who know lawyerball – as David Squires obviously does – know that England & Wales is the true home of lawyerball. People will say too much money has been thrown at the national stadium at the Rolls Building, or that £10,000 issue fees are pricing out the traditional trial-going fan. But you can get yourself into the County Court at Central London for a fraction of that - in fact, if you ignore a court order for long enough people will literally take you there for free - and the number of litigants in person we've got now shows the game is thriving at a grassroots level. They simply do not build courts like the Thomas More building anymore. Sure, the cynics will say that's because asbestos is illegal now, but I'm talking about the feel of the place. The sheer blood-and-guts, no-you-cant-have-a-counter-appointment, no-we-wont-pick-up-the-phone hostility of it. It's a thrill. Like going to the Den or Elland Road. It's actually a little-known fact that the lion in the coat of arms in every lawyerballroom was inspired by Millwall FC's badge. It just makes you remember why you first kicked a lawyerball all those years ago. We'll miss atmosphere like that when we're all lawyerballing in the sanitised lawyerballrooms of more modern times. Ok, the national game is going through a period of transition, but with the new Lord Chancellor Shabana Mahmood at the wheel I hope we can all get behind the team and build on this jurisdiction's great lawyerballing legacy. I absolutely love David Squires’ cartoons. This one is especially good and just so firmly in my wheelhouse it’s untrue. #Lawyerball #Lawyers #NoOneLikesUs #WeDoCare https://lnkd.in/ezH6P-Vd
