I've heard before that discipline is greater than motivation. Hard to beat this speech from the GOAT, Tom Brady. In Sales, the results we desire don't necessarily come from the work we put in during office hours. Success, rather, is the result of the preparation put into perfecting the craft. Nothing given. Everything earned. For all those who are chasing down first half 2024 goals, I'll see you out there on the field 😉 https://lnkd.in/g6xYDKBZ #Champions #Discipline #Sales #SalesMotivation #SalesCareers #ChampionMindset New England Patriots National Football League (NFL)

BrandNews: 👴; 2nd in the Kentucky Derby Any time Grandpa did something even halfway athletic, he would boast about this. We might be playing ping pong, or throwing a ball, or playing Tidily Winks. Then it would come: “I once came in 2nd in the #KentuckyDeby.” “Really?” “Yeah, I would have come in 1st if I’d had a horse.” 🙄 Oh, Grandpa! #grandpaisms ⬅ Follow this link to see all the posts in this series!

This really hit home. I find sports analogies are often used when leaders are struggling with a part of the business they don't understand. Example: You can tell a Sales team that I need more revenue or a certain quota. However, product management organizations are harder to track/measure. While most leaders would love to have an All-Star team, we need to have an honest conversation about: -Where we are as a team -What success really looks like (e.g., outputs vs. outcomes) -How we get there -What resources are needed during the journey and to support the organization
There should be a rule that if a leader evokes sports team analogies they should spend a year traveling with a sports team to understand the level of "systemic support" these athletes receive.
