J12’s Modeling & Simulation expert, Bob Case (Robert Case), recently participated in the 2024 Department of the Air Force M&S Summit. He was also among twenty-five industry leaders invited to participate in a special session on the state of M&S within the Department of the Air Force. Held in San Antonio, Texas, the theme for this year’s event was “Training in a Digital World.” The goal of the summit was to gather Air Force and Space Force M&S experts to learn about new M&S initiatives and techniques, network across military services and with industry experts, and to hear technological leaders’ perspectives on how M&S can transition more training from the real world to digital. It was a great chance to learn more about current and future M&S activities, how they support the fusion of air and space, and their impact on multi-domain operations to cultivate a distinct M&S community culture.

One of the most personally compelling and resonant lessons from Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET)'s report "Building the Tech Coalition: How Project Maven and the U.S. 18th Airborne Corps Operationalized Software and Artificial Intelligence for the Department of Defense" (https://lnkd.in/gXnffJzp) is the critical role of “trilingual” leaders—those who possess a deep understanding of military operations, emerging technologies, and the complexities of government contracting. Triple Threat: Ops, Tech, Acquisition These leaders are not just bridging gaps; they are forging new paths, enabling transformative innovation that would otherwise be impossible. Why does this matter? 1️⃣ Bridging Worlds: They ensure that technological advancements align with operational needs and navigate the often-complex government acquisition processes to bring these innovations to life. 2️⃣ Driving Innovation: Innovation doesn’t happen in the lab—it happens when visionary leaders create the conditions for technology to meet real-world challenges. Trilingual leaders are the catalysts who make this happen. 3️⃣ Sustaining Momentum: The speed of technological change is relentless. Leaders who understand all three domains—operations, technology, and contracting—are essential in keeping pace and ensuring that our innovations are not just cutting-edge but also practical and sustainable. The greatest thing we can do for our national security is cultivate and empower trilingual leaders. These leaders will be the ones who turn vision into reality. Who are the trilingual government leaders you work with?

Great-power competition has reemerged as the defining dynamic of international relations, and those who believe the United States has to “stand tall” again argue that Washington should wield its power without apology. By projecting real strength—diplomatic, military, economic—the U.S. can both deter rivals and reassure allies that it remains the linchpin of global stability. Read more here about why it is time the U.S. gets back to acting like the powerhouse it is. #NationalSecurity #Geopolitics #2025

🚀 Exciting times in the training domain for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force! The 2024 Department of the Air Force Modeling and Simulation Summit in San Antonio was a monumental event, focusing on transforming training into a digital frontier. 🌐 🎯 The summit, themed "Training in a Digital World," showcased how digital training environments and Modeling & Simulation (M&S) technologies can revolutionize learning. It was thrilling to see the alignment with Gen. David Allvin's vision of transforming training across our learning ecosystem. 👥 With about 900 attendees and 30 exhibitors, the summit was a melting pot of ideas from the Department of Defense, industry, academia, and international experts. The discussions and panel insights were incredible, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where knowledge and innovation thrived. 🤝 It was also an opportunity to hear from key leaders like Richard Tempalski, Chief M&S Officer, and Lt. Gen. Brian Robinson, who are steering this transformative journey. Their insights underscore the potential of M&S to create immersive and effective training solutions. 💡 This summit not only highlighted the technological advances but also the strong emphasis on collaboration and networking among professionals committed to pushing the boundaries of traditional training methods. 🤔 How do you see digital transformation shaping the future of military training? We expect our leaders to get ahead of problems and solve challenges before the challenge turns into a catastrophe. Leaders must imagine possible options and use red-teaming techniques to develop foresight. Foresight is a leader's ability to solve problems in the short term and create solutions for the long run. Last week SOFWERX, in collaboration with USSOCOM’s Directorate of Science and Technology (S&T) Futures and Strategic Command, played host to the fifteenth Innovation Foundry event (IF15) @ BT Group HQ London. As the 2nd international event in the series, IF15 shortlisted 60 individuals from UK/US military practitioners, industry, academia, national laboratories, and futurists from 500 applicants to explore and ideate around future scenarios and missions. The theme of IF15, ‘Smart Cities – Future Challenges for SOF’ explored the challenges of physical and remote SOF operations in a range of future complex #smartcity scenarios. S&T Futures has developed and refined a unique process, the Innovation Cycle, to engage technology #pioneers and #leaders, and to discover and develop high risk, #innovative, and #disruptive #technologies for future on-boarding. This Innovation Foundry is the first phase of the Innovation Cycle and was focused on idea generation. Deliverables for the IF15 event include preliminary capability concepts targeting the defined problem areas which may impact SOF and operations in the 2035 timeframe in interconnected smart cities. This event will be followed by 1) a Rapid Capability Assessment (RCA) to further develop the preliminary capability concepts, and 2) a series of Integrated Technology Sprints (ITS), to demonstrate proofs of concept. Special thanks to those with whom I worked in Team 5. Are you fostering a culture of innovation or sticking to ‘the way we’ve always done it’? The Marine Corps' development of amphibious warfare tactics in the 1920s and 1930s is a powerful example of forward-thinking innovation. In the face of budget cuts and skepticism, visionary Marines like Earl Ellis pushed for the development of amphibious capabilities, foreseeing their importance long before they became essential in World War II’s Pacific theater. Their ability to project power across vast oceanic distances transformed warfare—and it all started with a culture of innovation. Here’s how to foster a similar culture of innovation in your business: Encourage Visionary Thinking ↳ Like the Marines, give your team space for "blue sky" brainstorming without practical constraints. ↳ Create a system where employees can submit innovative ideas, no matter how ambitious. ↳ Reward forward-thinking proposals—even if they aren't immediately applicable, they fuel future success. Invest in Research and Development ↳ Even in tough times, allocate resources for exploring new technologies or strategies. ↳ Partner with universities or research institutions to stay at the forefront of your industry. ↳ Form cross-functional innovation teams to tackle problems from diverse perspectives, just as Marines used varied units to solve amphibious challenges. Embrace Calculated Risk-Taking ↳ Develop a system for assessing and managing risks associated with new ideas. ↳ Create a "safe to fail" environment where learning from unsuccessful attempts is celebrated as part of the innovation process. ↳ Implement rapid prototyping and testing to quickly validate new concepts without overcommitting resources. What’s one innovative idea you’re currently exploring in your business? Share your vision in the comments, and let’s inspire each other to push the boundaries of what’s possible! #creativedirector #ArtofBrandWarfare #DigitalMarketing #contentmarketing #veterans #leadership All the best, Your #1 Multi-Talented Creator 😎

To meet the threat of a changing battlespace dominated by artificial intelligence (#AI), the U.S. defense community must rethink how it collaborates with the commercial sector. Joshua Cryer, a 25-year veteran of military communications and current president and CEO of AFCEA corporate member Reticulate Micro Inc, argues that today’s AI fight requires new mindsets that reject the status quo, a laser focus on AI and quantum-based technologies, and incentivizing commercial innovation.
