On Friday, we had our annual company party at Estoty Vilnius. While I won't go into how wonderful it was (because being 50% of the organizing team means you know every tiny thing that didn't go as planned), I do want to highlight a unique activity we introduced this year: Phenotypology individual sessions. Initially, I was skeptical. I expected another charismatic person with cheap tricks. But this session delivered "The Prestige" (the hardest part of any magic trick). It was personal, not just for you, but about you. Amazingly, 90% of what was said rang true. Not all of it was pleasant, but sometimes a reality check is exactly what we need. Most colleagues were amused and intrigued. Sure, we have our skeptics, but a little time to believe in magic, science, or something else is always worthwhile. But this post is not about the organizational stuff; it is about deeper things. Every Estoty Vilnius party reveals something new about myself. Despite cursing our complicated ideas and oversights before the party, something always changes in my self-understanding after each event. It's not just the activities like phenotypology but the communication with colleagues and stepping out of our comfort zones that make the difference. Building the capability of Aotearoa! Great day yesterday attending my first HRNZ conference. I do most of my development virtually, so also a treat to be with real people for the day. Main take outs: *Aotearoa's population profile is hyper-diverse, Auckland is the 4th most diverse city on the world (twice as diverse as New York & more than all Australian cities). * We're experiencing reduced birth rates, increasing percentage of Maori & Pacifica, immigrants, and more older people. * People are living longer and not retiring. Some are "un-retiring". * The young have grown up in a hyper-stimulated environment where everything is on demand and personalised, so they expect it. Implications: * Awareness of diversity (in all its forms). * Flexibility, personalisation and tailored work, workplaces, and people development opportunities. And that's exactly what I do!
