Here's an idea for luxury brands and high street fashion brands alike - USE EVERYTHING you produce or don't produce it. Stop MAKING deadstock. If you sell leftover fabric to jobbers, expect it to get made into new goods and sold...yes, with your branding or your "proprietary print" showing. And if you don't want designer-entrepreneurs to make new garments from second-hand or vintage pieces you designed, then you need to offer to BUY BACK those pieces from the original purchasers and upcycle them yourself. You should be celebrating and promoting these creative people who give new life to old garments and old fabrics. I know the jury is still out on whether fashion brands should have a dedicated sweater team these days. For many, sweaters may not be a major category, but it remains an important and irreplaceable one that can elevate a collection. And since sweaters are knitted to shape, they're more sustainable because they don't generate the kind of waste that comes from standard fabric cutting. When we launched Knitup, we envisioned catering to individual designers or creators who wanted to create one-off or limited pieces. At the same time, we encountered many brands who no longer had sweater specialists and they were struggling to get the options and quality they needed, not just for their samples, but for the full collection. So we extended our services to these businesses, offering unlimited virtual renderings without waste.
